I think this looks lazy as shit, but I thought the same thing about Zelda and Mario and those games turned out to be incredible.

Yeah, this looks ok visually although I have not once seen a video of a 3DS game to actually show off how good a game looks on the screen. Kid Icarus, Zelda and even that Bravely Default look like junk in videos, but on the system they look amazing.

Is it just me, or does the art style look really muddy. I just popped my SNES cartridge in to see if I was remembering it incorrectly, but damn, this looks worse than the SNES version!

On a side note, barring I'm just blind, this looks fantastic. Yoshi's Island for the SNES was one of my favourite games growing up.

Somebody needs to cut out the word "new" from Nintendo's Japanese-to-English dictionary.

If they keep it from getting convoluted and frustrating like the DS game, this could be cool. Though the only good Yoshi game was the SNES original so I'm not exactly expecting much.

As for the art style...I ended up loving the way Link Between Worlds looked on the 3DS so maybe this looks great on there too. The blown-up web trailer sure isn't doing it any favors though.

Eh, this doesn't look great but I also think that A Link Between Worlds doesn't look very good so I don't know, this just might be a case where a lot of these 3DS games don't look very good unless you see them on the screen.

this does look weirdly ugly. I loved Yoshis Island on the SNES tho. Does it look better in person with the 3d? has anyone seen it? That sometimes happens with 3ds Stuff. Like LTTP2 looked bad in videos but looks good in person.

Nintendo, please stop putting "new" in your titles. Its going to confuse the children in 10 years.

Originally when Nintendo was developing Yoshi's Island they wanted to give it the Donkey Kong treatment by making it have pseudo-3D sprites (The original game's opening looks more like this new YI). But Miyamoto disagreed and wanted to rework the art assets to make the sprites have a hand-drawn look. For this tile, I think Nintendo is experimenting with the DKC sprite style to see how it would of looked for the original.

3DS games are rarely done justice in videos it seems. They always look kinda patchwork and weird to me in video form, and then I seem them in person on the 3DS screens and it's dramatically better. I'm guessing this is more of that. (Or at least, I'm hoping, because I agree, looks a little odd here)

Still not entirely sure Nintendo has what it takes to make a proper sequel to Yoshi's Island anymore (as they've tried that multiple times already with questionable success), and I'm not a fan of them leaning more towards Yoshi's Story rather than Yoshi's Island in aesthetics and sound.

I'm still curious as to how this will turn out though. I want to believe.

Maybe this is one of those situations where A Link Between Worlds looked bad in trailers but great on your 3DS? Or maybe its just ugly..

If a game named "Jeff Gerstmann's 2014 Game of the Year" ever does get made (and I'm kinda thinkin it should) I can't see it being a Nintendo exclusive.
