Already have it preordered for $40 and I was one of those weird people who actually liked SCIV. But ugh, Patroklos is such an awful design. He reminds me of that boring piece of shit Lars they threw into Tekken 6. Most characters are much more interesting, but they make the most boring ones the focus. What a waste.

I remember when I used to get excited for a new Soul Calibur game. Now... well I didn't even know it was out soon.

Soul Calibur reminds me of Sonic in that the developers seem to have no idea what made the series popular to begin with. I'm not saying its hit the lows of Sonic 2006 but Soul Calibur IV just left such a bitter taste in my mouth.

what is this aspect of the series that Namco has 'no idea' about, which you say made the series popular yet is no longer present in SC5?

Why is everyone so upset about this? They produce a modicum of effort to put in a cinematic story sequence to fill out the single player experience and everyone throws a bitch-fit? It looks fine, and even appears to be rendered alright. It may be hammy, but it's better than nothing. I loved King of Fighters XIII--even going so far as to say it was the best fighter of last year bar none--but that "story mode" was terribly lackluster in presentation. It didn't hamper the experience though, because it's a fighting game, and the game part of that was exceptionally strong. This has significantly more flash and production and no doubt a solid fighting game behind it as well, and still you're all so quick to jump on the dissent horse with Cool and the gang.

Maybe I'm bitching to the wrong audience, but if you must complain about something in this game, an additional non-essential mode that is extremely filled out should not be a part of it.

Now if you want to get into certain character designs and some of the female VAs, then I'm on your side.

I'm happy to see more fighting games trying to do a story more like Mortal Kombat. I'm sorry, but only catering the tourney players is just going to cause the genre to die out again. You NEED these kinds of interesting modes so more of us players who like fighting games but will never learn every single little nuisance in the game something to do. A good fighting engine should be the basic that should be expected, not the final outcome. A good engine is nothing is there's nothing to play it with.

Sounds like...Yosuke? Anyway, all the dialog in this trailer was hilarious.

Ugh, that didn't come across well.

A deeper story mode is great but this trailer come up short when showing off the jiggle engine. I hope the future trailers focus more on that.

Agreed. Everything was cut together in a completely nonsensical way, and it didn't make the story's premise very clear at all aside from "Here's a bunch of characters we won't refer to by name, other than Nightmare and Patroklos, and I guess here's some fighting".

I don't the problem the story gives you a reason to fight, witch is all that was needed in MK9 and that plot horrible.

I've been playing the soul series since Soul Edge on PS1 and this is trailer is closest I have ever come to understand what the hell is going on in Soulcalibur. Like Jeff is with Sonic though, I no longer care about Namco fighing games. I do hope one day they can prove me wrong.

Troy Baker is a different guy. He's the one voicing the main character in Bioshock: Infinite.

Also, that trailer completely failed to inspire. It's missing a consistent and compelling art style and the swords failed to look cool.

I have not been impressed by Japanese video game trailers recently. The last decent one I can remember was the new Metal Gear.

Those girls have some bad voices. also... its not going to feel as awesome as mortal kombats story mode because its just directly translated from Japanese. the writing will probably be less than good. in japan i figure they eat trailers like this up.

AT LEAST THE FIGHTING IS STILL AWESOME!

oh and for those who haven't heard setsuka is dead and her playstyle is just the kid with Yosukes voice using souledge.
