Surely I can't be the only one who thought that the title for this video was "Killing Krillin".

The next episode of "All Systems Goku" can't come soon enough.

I'm sure a million people yelled at Jason later in the video, but the pills only last for 30 seconds. Drugs last until you die. I don't know that pills are that super useful.

I was wondering why it would take one hour to finish a single mission, then Jason shot the Kirin once and it became quite clear.

This that challenging endgame content of circling the monster and spamming the same attacks and then chasing the monster. Phew, glad I stopped playing at hour 15.

Man the worst part of any game is when mobs get low hp and you gotta chase them. Ithe isn't even kiting where they chase you ... a whole game built around with mechanic of mobs running away seems so obnoxious and I was super excited about getting this on pc but I've played this low hp aggro mob bs since everquest 1 and don't see how it can be fun running 75 percent of the fight.

That being said this stream was really fun and loved the commentary. Still laughing at bladders used as footballs for poogies and I don't even what a poogie is ...

Man, I tried to get into the bow (and other ranged weapons) but it just didn't ever click. I just end up thinkin about how I wanna get in there with a Switch Axe or dance around with the Glaive instead. To each their own!

Also Jason's character kinda looks like Mark MacDonald.

Also also Jeff, there's a line in the game about how basically any monsters they cannot categorize or classify they just throw into the "elder dragon" camp.

@steveurkel:

If this kind of mechanic really gets to you to the point that you can't handle it even a bit then you prob should stay away but it's not as bad as this fight would suggest. Tempered Kirin is an annoying fight, in so many ways. I've avoided him since this exact assignment and I'm now HR80 and 200+ hrs haha And it doesnt help that he is at the coral highlands bit which can be a dick to navigate. But generally speaking most fights at first will be 2/3 chases to another area then they'll go to their nest. Which early on is a pain but once resources become easier to come by you'll be able to stop them in their tracks and force them to stay and fight/capture them. Navigating becomes easier because you know routes so can traverse quicker or fast travel closer to where they are going and areas aren't always far apart. And once you go up HRs and you get more powerful they'll be running away less. How good you are very much determines this because them running seems to be more time based as opose to health percentage unless they are critical health then they'll tend to try and go for their nest. But like I say there are ways to stop it.

I played a MH on my PSP, maybe 10 years ago, and I never got in to it. A couple of hours in I put it down and never picked it back up. Coulda been much to do with it being on the PSP as much as anything else. But this game is really good. By no means perfect but its a damn good game albeit at times very frustrating. Its very much a game that is what you make it. Just thought I'd share this even if you still write it off :)

@steveurkel: It's not so much that they run away though. They move around if you take too long, and they go back to their nest once they're almost dead. There is no endless chasing because they're constantly on the run. You can think of it like stage transitions in fighting games. It makes the fight more dynamic and allows for some variety. Take the Kirin fight as an example. You generally fight him in three different areas. One has a bunch of healing, another is slanted (allowing for slide attacks) and the third has air vents which allow you to do air attacks if you have the glider.

Also once you've played the game enough you both know exactly where to go next and you can even prevent them from moving around at all. Hell, if you just beat the crap out of them you can kill most monsters without having to worry about it.

Demondrug is a decent increase till you die.
Might seed is a pretty good increase for 3min
Might pill is a massive power boost for 30sec.

You take a might pill if you know you can go ham on the monster like when it is asleep or about to be knocked over or stuck in a trap.

When I saw the title I was wondering if the duders were going for LR or HR because the others sounded like they weren't very far in the game. But I guess it's just Jason...

Any piercing attacks against Kirin (or generally the elemental Elders) seem pointless, when their body shields are active the projectile stops after the head anyway so you get like 1-2 hits, constant non-piercing fire tends to work better there.

That's the bow for you. Against Kirin you just don't want to go melee.

Eh, it's actually easier than some of the investigations you can end up getting. I'd rather do Sapphire Star's Guidance than tempered Teostra in Elder's Recess with a 15-minute time limit and no faints allowed.

I also kinda wonder if he'll even get to HR 100. That's a whole lotta hours for a dude with a young kid and a lot of other games to play.

Yeah I don't get that comment...what do they think a bow does? Get up and stab them? It's also one of three ranged weapons and one of fourteen total weapons so it's not like you're locked into just one style.

Edit: Actually I forgot you can totally stab monsters with a bow. Dash+Triangle. Think it also counts as mounting damage too.

Anyway, I've found Dragonpiercer to do incredibly well against Vaal Hazak and Kushala Daora at least. Flash pods and Dragonseal tend to make them vulnerable enough that Dragonpiercer can do some work. Teostra mauls me if I even think about trying it, though.

I have yet to fight a Kirin (about 120-ish hours in and just recently saw credits, and haven't yet done the optional one for it) and while it doesn't seem too hard, I probably won't even attempt a Dragonpiercer unless it gets KO'd. I tend to dash-fire most of the time for other monsters anyway so that looks like the appropriate route for him.

What's to get? The game is highly repetitive, transparently so. Whether it's a bow or an insect glaive or a gun or a sword, the game boils down to essentially repeating the same effective attacks over and over again. Yes, every game is that, but Monster Hunter stretches it to the point of tedium, even if you're good, and there's nothing to engage with other than chasing and hunting monsters (in comparison to something like Dark Souls or Bloodborne, which has a fantastic sense of exploration and atmosphere, with arguably more refined and more time-respecting combat.) The other element I was poking at was that Monster Hunter's endgame is touted as being very challenging. Hell, the entire game is touted as being challenging. It's not. This fight is not challenging. It's the same thing you do at hour 10, just more tedious. So, now here's some endgame, and I'm really glad I didn't stick around, because it's the same thing I was bored with when I decided I had enough.

They definitely made it better but I still wouldn't say that the movement is amazing, and there are other gameplay issues there that compound the Witcher fatigue anyway.

@subscryber: Eh, different strokes I guess. I think 14 different weapons to learn is a good chunk of gameplay. I mean the -souls games have weapons which have a certain number of moves that you repeat as well. Pretty much every game does something like that, the key is to know when to use what moves to make things go smoothly.

The maps have a some exploration in them if you take the time to, err, explore them, but definitely not as much as a -souls game, so if that's what you're looking for then yeah MHW isn't for ya. Still, there are hidden camps and cat tribes and stuff to find. There are a good chunk of monsters, harder versions that act differently, etc. Learning how they act and fight, or watching them go do interesting little things when not actively fighting is something I really enjoy.

But hey if the game isn't for ya then that's fine, it is personal preference after all.

@subscryber: To me the part that I prefer MHW over games like Dark Souls is the preparation aspect of the hunts.

Okay, I am going against a Kirin? Let's put together a lightning resist, stun resist, paralysis resist set to guarantee I can drop him. Maybe I need to hunt several other monsters to put together that set. I actually enjoy that part of the game. As I learn his patterns and become better equipped at killing him, I can start to shift my set away from pure survivability and into damage so that I can do 30 minute (and later 15 minute) investigations for that same monster.

The game does this fantastic job of presenting you with fights that seem incredibly tough at first, like this Tempered Kirin fight, only to have them become trivial as you learn the fight. First time I saw a Barroth? Super scary. Now? One of the easiest monsters to farm.

The learning and preparation part is what really is exciting in MHW. Of course there are fight mechanics to learn too, like getting the hang of Nergigante's divebomb or Teostra's Supernova, but that is really only part of it. To say that every monster fights the same way, or even a similar way, is being very reductive though. I have around 120 hours with Insect Glaive (and about 20 with Hunting Horn) and I am still learning new things about both weapons.

Indeed. I'm playing through W3 for the first time right now on PS4 and Geralt can be a fiddly dude to move at times (though at the pace (flat out) and style (on easy) I'm playing, it's not a problem).

Far from a smooth experience, for sure, but also avoidable, I think. In any event, I've been having a good time with it. Worth the wait!
