I don't really understand the promo video. Does this mean Steve Austin is actually The Undertaker?

Kind of weird to go with someone who hasn't been active in well over a decade and only rarely appears on WWE content nowadays. I guess they view it the same as putting Michael Jordan on the cover of 2K11.

Wrestling games are terrible. On the other hand you got a global icon and national treasure digging up his prized championship in the middle o' nowhere? Ah hell yeah.

I had this small hope that it would be Dusty, but Stone Cold is alright as well!

Kind of surprised they aren't going with Lesnar tbh.

Does the WWE have no more popular wrestles that are wrestling now to put on the cover of the game?

Last year was Cena with a special Hulk Hogan edition. Year before that The Rock with special Undertaker edition, but that at least had the fan voted Daniel Bryan inside cover. I hope they do a fan voted alternate this year to give some lip service to the current roster.

Seriously though, Seth Rollins deserves the cover and it would make for a good reveal segment on RAW.

He makes sense as the cover-guy as the game is going to have a slice of his feuds from the 'Attitude Era'. Similar to Cena/Punk and HHH/Shawn last year.

WWE 2K16 is an open world game set in a post apocalyptic desert, starring a grizzled Stone Cold Steve Austin.

I think WWE is slowly integrating Stone Cold back into the show so they can build up to his last match at Mania 32. It's in Texas and they want to sell 100K tickets.

They have been, but the 2K basketball series is lauded as the best sports franchise. If they can put that level of work in a wrestling title eventually it might be something to see.

I never got the obsession with the time 3:16. Is it 3:16 AM or PM? Did something significant happen then? All Google searches turn up something about him kicking someones ass.

It's not actually a time, but a Bible reference of sorts.

Kind of an involved story, but it basically began with a promo Austin did during a King of the Ring. He had just beaten Jake "The Snake" Roberts who I believe was either doing some kind of religious gimmick at the time or had actually embraced religion in his real life. So Austin, mocking Roberts, brought up the Biblical passage John 3:16 and then said "Austin 3:16 says I just kicked your ass".

It became very popular and sort of launched Austin to stardom, along with a major amount of Austin 3:16 shirts that I am sure Vince loved selling.

He didn't bury it very deep. Surely anyone with some time and a metal detector could have dug that thing up.

Haven't really paid attention to wrestling since Stone Cold was actually wrestling, and fell off before any of this belt burying nonsense. Is he wrestling again or something? Can we start a petition for The Rock on the cover of 2K17? How does any of this work? Is this Fame Douglas' doing? We need answers, people!

@excast: It's not that weird when you consider how weak the product is at the moment. Throw the most popular face from the most popular period of wrestling on the box and you hopefully boost interest and sales.

Man they really missed out on a great marketing opportunity, if they had just waited another thousand years they could have put him on the cover for WWE3K16.

Money left on the table that is.

@grapesoda: not really, its realistic to think Austin will be involved in Wrestlemania 32 somehow especially since its in Texas. This gives him an excuse to be on TV and possibly start a feud with someone. As long as he can go medically, my money would be on him in a match in Dallas. That would put butts in seats.

Even beyond that, John 3:16 signs were very common at US sporting events at one time. I haven't seen any in awhile, but back in the late 70s one dude started holding up signs for it at football and baseball games, trying to get on camera with it, etc, and it spread from there and was a whole fad for awhile. You'd see at least one at pretty much every major US sporting event.

So the reference to Austin 3:16, followed by t-shirts and signs with it, is playing off that.

@excast There has been a rumour going around for awhile that their "recreate old matches" single player mode this year (like Attitude Era, 30 Years of Wrestlemania & Showcase from previous years) is going to involve going through classic matches from Austin's career, so if that's the case, putting him on the cover makes perfect sense.

Theres been a rumor that the WWE have been wanting him in one last match for a little while now. This might be a way to appeal to him to get him in the ring.

Who can say.

There is and I shit you not an entire episode where Austin talks to a fly in his hotel room. And then proceeds to do a skit where him and the fly have a wrestling match.
