Orson Scott Card on Shadow Complex

Anyway, game still is awesome.

Nobody should judge this game based on this guy. It's still a great game and you should support developers who are willing to make such polished downloadable games. Also, I don't have a problem with this guy. If I thought his book was good, I'd probably read it. Who cares if he's against same-sex marriage? Lots of people are, even I am. That doesn't make me a homophobe (because being SCARED of gays makes no sense) and it doesn't make me hate gays. If I met a gay guy who I wanted to be friends with, I'd be friends with him. You shouldn't judge people on what one of their beliefs is. You don't judge gays for being gays, so you shouldn't judge people who don't like gays based on the fact that they don't like gays. He's not trying to spread his mesage through this game either, it's just a game. I've played through it three times and I've never heard any ant-gay propaganda in it. So stop complaining, and play the damn game because it's awesome.

I'm not a supporter of his ideas or opinions but I can respect an author that allows his worlds to be portrayed in mediums such as video games. I like his general enthusiasm for what kind of stories video games can tell, because that kind of thinking from a prolific writer such as Card is rare these days. Despite the fact that Shadow Complex takes place in a world created by a raging right wing conservative it looks like a great game and I'm really excited to play it.

Gay hating bigots. Turning me off Shadow Complex since 2009.

Not to drag on this debate longer, but I'd like to point something out to the people suggesting that they're not going to buy this game because of this guys personal beliefs. He is not the only one responsible for this game, in fact he himself had only a very small role in the actual production of the game. Lots of people spent a lot of time and effort to develop this game and put out a quality product, are you really not going to support them because they happened to make a game based off of some other guys work who happens to have a personal belief that they probably don't even share?
 
If you don't want to buy his books and support him directly because you disagree with his views that's perfectly understandable, but not supporting game developers that release a quality product just because they have an indirect relationship with the guy is just absurd.

Empire is a terrible book with completely unbelievable characters. Nowhere near the caliber of Ender's Game.

When I read Ender's Game, I found some parts that made me think "wow, this is suspiciously gay"
 
I had no idea at the time what the author's public views were. It all makes sense now. Often the most vocal homophobes are closeted themselves.
 
I read about a study from the University of Georgia that concluded that  that homophobia in men is a reaction to repressed homosexual urges..
 
Ender's Game is a good book btw..read it

I didn't know that Card was a homophobic bigot before hearing about Shadow Complex. Not that it matters much if you enjoy the game. I am sure there are hundreds if not thousands of people involved in your fav games that you wouldn't like much if you heard their opinions.

Prejudice is wrong and should be condemned when encountered. I don't think there is anything wrong with the backlash present here, it is indicative of a maturity so often absent from some conrners of the Internets.

I really hope they continue Advent Rising. Seeing "To Be Continued" at the end of that game just pissed me off knowing that the series has been canceled!

What I don't get is why they chose to link the game to the Empire universe to begin with? Is it really a selling point?
 
The only upshot of using Empire over an original mythology that I can see is that money from a fine looking game is going into the pocket of a bigoted little feck.

Orson Scott Card doesn't make this game look any more attractive to me...
 
Partly because he's a homophobe, and partly because I didn't like Ender's Game.

I'll buy a good game / book from a homosexual or from a homophobe, who cares - I buy stuff from people who share a different view then me all the time.

It's too bad that some people can be so hateful to people they know little about. 
 
I'm a fan of Ender's Game and am a Mormon (as some people call us) like Card. While I can't speak for the man's personal views (and I think it's important to distinguish those views from the views of the Church at large), I can certainly say that I, personally, am NOT a homophobe, or anti-gay, or anything like that, and nor is anyone else I know in the Church. It's pretty easy to have a generalized stereotype of a people or a culture that you don't understand or know very much about. 
 
That being said, I do believe in the traditional definition of marriage (one man + one woman), and was supportive of prop 8 in California last year. It saddens me that so many people seem to jump to the conclusion that because of this I must be a horrible bigot who wants to destroy other peoples' lives and force my EVIL beliefs on them (that was sarcasm). Nothing could be further from the truth. Yelling and getting angry doesn't help anyone and just discourages understanding. I believe that there is a legitimate discourse that can, with civility, go back and forth between people on both sides of the issue. And I certainly don't hate or think less of any of you who disagree with me. After all, you must be great people - you're using Giant Bomb, right? :)

Just because he has a certain opinion that you may not agree with doesnt justify people trying to judge him as a person. maybe some of you people should read his book empire. it explains how people are so divided in this country, and if someone doesnt believe in what you believe that automatically makes that person an enemy. im not saying that i agree with his views but atleest i can agree to disagree and enjoy his books.

Enders Game is one of the best books i have ever read.
