Nice. Quest Complete!

Looks really generic and bland. Both in character design and gameplay.

I was just about to say that. This is basically the anime fighting game that the writers make up for characters from The Big Bang Theory to play in-between one-liners.

ANIME FIGHTING GAMES

Posted by smokyexe

Fighting games had a good run at the comeback. I think we done now.

Posted by MindChamber

Having a sprite sit on a single frame of animation while getting combo'd by the other sprite is unforgivable this day and age.

you gonna make a 2D sprite game now, you better commit, that choppy 90s shit aint cuttin it.

aside from that, this looks generic.

Posted by cikame

Japan only and that makes sense, they'll play any fighter.

Edited by Addfwyn

Huh, don't know how this has gone totally under my radar. Don't think it'll seriously tear me away from BlazBlue anytime soon, but I'd give it a try, see how it handles. M seems pretty cool looking, though I can't figure out what she has in her right hand.

Though wait a second, it's only on 360? As a Japanese release? I...think I know one person here that has a 360, and he works for Microsoft.

Meh.

Posted by InfiniteGeass

This trailer suffers from the same problem every fighting game trailer suffers from. That problem is that is shows off a bunch of combos most casual players will not be able to pull off and putting them off from fighting games.

K-K-K-K-Kawaii Breaker!!!

Posted by AxleBro

shitty games that weird japanese people will play because they play anything with little girls with swords and miniskirts... its like their culture or somthing...

also you know.... low quality companies trying to coattail arcsys because holy shit their games sell real good in places where this is cool... and bb sold decently here until they made 3 or 4 versions of the second... "installment" ... the first blazblue was an ok guilty gear lite... ill give it that.... seeing shit like this just makes me want that persona fighting game to come out...

tl;dr this game looks like shit even by bad anime fighter standards.

Posted by Redhotchilimist

I think whatever countering they are using seems interesting, but the looks, the designs... This is really very generic.

Posted by MaxOpower

Wow kind of bad animatd too, at least comperade to some of the other "recent" 2D fighters like Skull Girls and street figter III 3rd Strike. SO FEW FRAMES.

Posted by BabyChooChoo

I like anime. I like fighting games.

Neither look good in this 'game.'

Posted by Little_Socrates

Unimpressed. Looks like a boring BlazBlue, and I don't even really like BlazBlue very much.

Posted by PurplePartyRobot

I'm sure this has more significance in Japan.

Posted by MiniPato

If it had more than the typical trifecta of sailor school uniform, magical girl, loligoth, bullshit that's plaguing anime these days, I might see it working. But it is that bullshit. No thank you.

Posted by Aetheldod

I like anime and fighting games , but this is soooooo generic and lazy :( the thumbnail looked more cool than what is shown on the trailer

Posted by SejsCube

Great, now I can watch generic animu characters that I neither know nor care about duke it out in a really un-impactful fighting game.

Seriously, that was bad. Didn't seem like the two characters were on the same plane at all - they were just waving limbs over each other and it caused damage to appear.

Posted by McQuinn

DON'T FLOOD THE MARKET. Seriously, this game looks terrible and just because fighting games are having a second wind doesn't mean shit like this should get by.

The 360 Japanese Exclusive scene has been really weird. Steins;Gate and Idolmasters started out as 360 exclusive titles and there are an unfathomable number of CAVE shooters exclusive to 360. It probably has to do with the 360 being cheaper to develop for (i.e.Microsoft XNA) and Microsoft Japan having more slack regulations for the platform.

Yeah, this looks pretty lame. If the character design didn't look so generic I could look past the generic gameplay... but no, it just seems uninteresting all around.

Posted by EoinMason

The 2D effects I actually dig a lot. Seemed like a lot of work went into animating and flowing every detail of it.

Just a shame it's in a generic anime shell.

Posted by 71Ranchero

Not sure how all you can tell how it plays from a 1 minute video.

Posted by GunstarRed

Theres a demo of this on the Japanese Xbox live from months and months ago. It's pretty awful.

Posted by chrismafuchris

I'm all for new fighting games, but this just looks like a shameless cash in, but one must wonder how good it even is at that.

Posted by GaspoweR

Skullgirls has more character and at least it follows a similar system to the CVS series. Not excited for this one at all.

Posted by lancereagle

This new M.U.G.E.N games looks like crap!

Posted by PerfidiousSinn

See, this is why they shouldn't decide on which games should be at EVO until at least April. This could've easily qualified.

Posted by Nephrahim

Wow. Another Anime fighter.

Seriously, I like Anime and fighting games, but how many of these can they make? They all look exactly the same. Like the Modern military shooter of fighting games.

While I don't think Skull Girls looks that great either I gotta agree with the frames comment.

I think if you're going to release a 2D pixel fighter in this day and age it should have butter smooth animation.

Posted by SuddenBlackout

Out of all the Doujin fighters to bring over, this is the one they pick?

Posted by CaptainInvictus

I can't wait for Skullgirls. This, not so much.

Posted by Icemael
I downloaded this game's demo via Japanese Xbox Live last year and had an awful time.

Microsoft has also gone to great lengths to encourage Japanese developers to make Xbox 360 exclusives. They partnered up with Mistwalker for Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, they paid Namco Bandai to make Tales of Vesperia a timed exclusive, they probably had a hand in The Last Remnant's PS3 version being cancelled, they helped Cave develop a fast, easy method for porting their arcade games -- it goes on. In the end they failed to convert any significant portion of the Japanese gaming audience, but they did get the shoot 'em up and visual novel fans, and if you consider that Phantom Breaker was developed by 5pb. (who mostly make visual novels) it's really not that surprising that it's an Xbox 360 exclusive.

@InfiniteGeass: Good point. Personally, I saw the combos and thought "oh, great. Another 'turn-based' fighting game. Aren't they ever going to get sick of combos that paralyze the opponent? I want a fighting game where you fight with each other, not recite combos."

Posted by Devoid

Man, this looks pretty dumb. Though a couple of characters in this makes me wish there was a Madoka game instead.

Posted by JakeLogan

I'm a Non-Fighting Game Wizard and even I think that's fucked up

Posted by SuperfluousMoniker

Yo, this game has some bad attack animations.

Posted by Godzilla_Sushi

Yek

Edited by sate2801

me got drawn into this when it first release in Japan because of a certain hidden character

but then after I tried the demo, I bailed out.

seriously 5pb. should stick to what they do best...

Edited by Ulong

Nothing about this looks good. Skull Girls actually looks pretty good, good enough for me to maybe buy a game that is that offensively anime as hell.
But the hit animations on this and everything, nothing looks satisfying at all.

Posted by Vortextk

Skull girls pushes people's anime buttons? What? If by anime you mean anything animATED then...possibly. The fighting style here, the generic anime outfits, the massive 2d portraits; THAT is a game that screams anime. I think blazblue looks a lot cooler, but I completely sucked at it and gave it like two days...so it just sits on my shelf shaming me. I don't play fighting games anymore, not a ton before, so yes I base a lot off looks. Though MK9 was always tempting I'm not playing online and no one to play it with anyway; loved 2 and 3.

I wouldn't go that far. The game really reminds me of Melty Blood.

Posted by endaround

@Vortextk: Some of the characters in Skullgirls are drawn heavily from anime types (others not so much) and I'm sure the lead artist would admit to that.

This trailer went up because this is getting a US release. Yeah I don't get why either.

Did you miss the esrb warning at the start of the video? this ...thing is coming to NA.

@Humanity:

Skull Girls looks that great either

You mean you don'y like the art/look of it, or you don't like the animation?

Posted by Solh0und

It makes me upset that Melty Blood won't even touch US shores....

Even if you ignore the anime style, it just doesn't look like it's a good game. I see no variety of moves, combos, everything looks stiff, the music is boring, so much squeaking coming from the kawaiiii~~~ characters, and it's just "here's a 2D fighter with random background," no theme or mood or anything. Melty Blood suffered from a lot of this as well which is why only weeaboos played it but I'll tell you right now: MB was and is superior as a fighting game to... whatever this is. Phantom Breaker? Haha, ok.

Both. I don't like the character design very much and I don't think their animation is very smooth at all. I'm all for sexy girls in fighting games but more along the lines of Cammy from Street Fighter Alpha rather than Soul Caliburs Ivy. The art-style is all subjective though - it doesn't click with me but others seem to like it.
