I'm super excited about this. Haven't played every entry in this series but I've enjoyed every one I have.

I'm pretty willing to believe a Western release wouldn'tve happened unless it was digitally only (Read: they don't have high hopes for sales in the West)

They should work on getting the older ones into the eShop as well. I know a lot of people didn't actually get to play the older games.

Looks like a better transition from 2D to 3D for Phoenix than for Layton. Instant purchase.

Just waiting on that Layton Vs. Ace Attorney announcement now...

Edit: Just learned that this is the first Ace Attorney game without involvement of the series creator, Shu Takumi, since he was busy with Layton Vs. Ace Attorney.

I keep reading that people are pissed that this is Digital Only. Am I the only one who buys all my 3DS game from the eShop exclusively? I would have to take out my of Tetris DS if I didn't. Still playing that 3-4 days a week.

The way I look at it is either a digital download or nothing. Just bought a bigger SD card because I think there is going to be more digital release only for the 3DS.

@jollus: It's somewhat understandable given Nintendo's insistence on tying digital game purchases to the system. There are also all those horror stories of reclaiming content or failing to reclaim in cases of Nintendo system theft and breakage. I don't think this is or ever will be a problem for most of Nintendo system owners, but it sounds like it fucking sucks if you are that unfortunate owner.

Anyway, really excited to see this game getting a confirmed release. I already own a bunch of eShop stuff thanks to sales so the game being digital-only doesn't bother me much.

Now just release Ace Attorney Investigations 2 outside of japan and all is good.

@jollus: The problem a lot of people have is that in 10-20 years there will probably be no way to buy or re-download the game once nintendo stops supporting the 3DS. There are other download only games of course, but I don't think there are any that are part of an ongoing story one might discover or want to revisit that far down the line, only to find there is no way for them to acquire the fifth game in the series. I've also seen people disappointed because they wanted a box for their collection, but that is a secondary concern.

I can give a rat's ass of it being digital. More Phoenix Wright is all I've ever wanted for this handheld.

@doctorwhofreak: That is something I never really considered. I know that with the DSi, those downloadable titles have moved forward to the 3DS (maybe not all?), but Nintendo has really mucked it up on the Wii > WiiU transition. I wonder if the handhelds will be better about digital support moving forward. I know that on the physical side, they do one generation back. Whatever comes after the 3DS will be the first time we have more than one generation of digital releases to worry about. Should be interesting. Hopefully now that Nintendo has merged their handheld and console divisions they'll better learn from the others mistakes.

Who the hell wants to have loads of these small carts around? It's one of the worst things about the systems.

I just wish they'd tie games to your account properly because digital is far, far more convenient. Being able to play Persona 4 and UMvC3 without switching the cart is great on my Vita.

If it being digital-only is what it takes to get it localized, that's a hit I'm willing to take. Plus, I don't actually own any 3DS games. I have like 7 of them, all on an 8 gig cart, with plenty of space to go.

I'm extremely bummed this is going digital-only. =/

I'm a massive fan of the series, and I know I should just be happy we're getting it at all, but I liked supporting it and having all the games in my collection on my shelf (in addition to the fact that the 3DS's digital system is atrocious)... I don't want to have to buy the Japanese release just to have a boxed copy for the shelf.

Of course, I'll still buy the western release, but I would have vastly preferred if it was a physical one.

the only two issues i have in getting full priced digital games on the 3DS is that it's tied to my hardware plus nintendo prices full games at a silly level compared to amazon prices (see that fire emblem is like £40 on the eshop but i got it for £32 on amazon)

The carts are a small inconvenience which I'll put up with in comparison to Nintendo's eshop pricing. Take Luigis Mansion as an example - eshop price - £39.99, Amazon UK price £30.25.

I'm not about to pay nearly 25% extra just to have it installed on my SD Card.

Sony is just as bad Crysis 3 is £59.99 on PSN and £30.40 on Amazon UK.

Those may just be two examples but both stores are massively higher then the high street across the board.

I cannot think of one single justifiable reason to use a download service over a store at this time. It's also my biggest fear about the next generation if any of the rumours do prove true and everything goes download only.

Is this the same game that has a Collector's Edition with a Phoenix statue? Dang it, I was hoping that edition would come to the US.

Meh. I don't care that it's digital only, to be honest. I'm still pissed at Nintendo for not implementing a proper account system, at least on 3DS... but I've never replayed any of the Ace Attorney games, so it's not big deal if I end up losing it.

Still, Nintendo, get your shit together and make a proper account system!

Edit: I just noticed that the new video player doesn't let you rewatch the video when it's done. When I click on the Play button again, it says that it's "resuming from the last position" or something in those lines and skips right to the end. Bummer.

Happy to see this get North American release date before it even hits Japan. I've been buying all my 3DS games digitally for a while now so digital was probably the way I would have went for this anyways, much better than them choosing to not localize it at all.

It does worry me that we still have no release date for Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney.

I'm so glad it's coming out. I was really disappointed when the second Miles Edgeworth game never made it out, and I'm still holding onto hope that the Phoenix Wright X Professor Layton still makes it here, eventually.

I don't understand why they won't simply do a limited run alongside the digital release. Their reasoning behind the decision doesn't make any sense at all.

We understand that this decision may upset fans who wanted to have a physical version of the title to add to their collection but we believe this direction is the best to take to ensure that fans are able to enjoy the game at their own leisure.

Well, I guess the universe was telling me something when I decided to upgrade my 3DS's storage to 32GB.

Very excited to play this one. Can't wait.

If everyone buys this, maybe they'll release a downloadable version of Ace Attorney Investigations 2. And maybe they'll bring over Phoenix Wright X Professor Layton. I desperately want a chance to play those games. I hope this does well for them.
