@RazielCuts: Jeff and Ryan are pretty damn cynical.

I'd say if ryan was the one doing this instead of patrick he would be tearing it apart alot more than patrick did.

Oh no. Oh no, Greg Proops, why? Couldn't you have left that part of your life behind you?

I mean, they had him at gunpoint...

I can only hope they drove a dumptruck of money up to his house.

dammmmm this looks like dogshit, and downright insulting for a kids game,

I love the wave being named, "Mind Trick".

That voice actor they have for C3PO is annoying the tits off me and I'm only 5 minutes into a 40 minute video.

Jedi Knight games are on steam, there's a Jedi Knight collection (includes Dark Forces franchise.)

Good quick look. Awful game.

Well...at least we know Greg Proops is still getting work. I miss Whose Line.

It's really annoying when they keep saying "well you know what this would be better with?! A controller! hurr" Well yah of course but thats not the point. They're like party mini games. IF you get a few friends, crack open some of those beers Patrick just loves to drink, start messing around with these games while shouting cool memes like "lol what is videogame!" then everyone can have a good time. Thats why no one is making serious first person shooters that are Kinect only - but rather they're always mini-game compilations. The Bomb crew is always so cynically sour on anything Kinect related they don't even try to have fun with any of it - hey unless it's from Double Fine then the same rancor mini game is now a ton of fun!

This game is an abomination.

That Rancor game makes me want a Rampage World Tour game for Kinect.

Good grief, this is destroying my childhood so terribly.

There needs to be a Kinect Rampage game. I said it and I mean it.

Edited by DeF

I don't get why this, in addition to being a crappy game, also happens to look like a cheap, crappy Wii game in the visual department. Low res textures, bad aliasing and not even fancy lighting to distract you ...

or is that just bad video compression?

It's kind of weird to criticize someone for saying "playing games way X is better" then two sentences later lay out all the other things you need to make it an enjoyable experience.

@wsninja: Weird Al is Mozart compared to this.

@Humanity: The Rancor Minigame in this game is part of a full-priced Kinect-game. There are half half a dozen games in this mini game compilation. In DoubleFine's case, their Rancor/rampage-game was part of a 10 dollar downloadable XBLA-game, and it was one of dozens of mini-games. There's difference in content and value there.

Posted by Zeg

Combining a supposed 'bad' game with an evidently bad Kinect setup/enviroment was probably not the best plan.

Not that I'm saying the game would have ended up appearing vastly better if Kinect wasn't freaking out constantly, but as Brad said, they apparently still have work to do to get a somewhat better setup.

Podracing was probably okay. Though that commentator was plenty annoying.

@BrianP: I'm saying just relax and have fun with it. You don't need alcohol to make this fun. It IS going to be more fun playing with a group of friends. Theres a difference between saying "this mini game would be so much better with a controller" and me saying just play it for what it is.

Both are fun for the couple of hours worth of enjoyment that you might glean from it (plus a few more once my son is old enough to join in). But there's nothing about the Star Wars version of this mini-game suite style of game that would warrant paying 5x the price that you would pay for the Double Fine game.

@Humanity: I totally get that, but you are putting way more conditions on how to play the game than they are. If anything, Brad is playing the game for what it actually is, not being influenced by the general enjoyment of hanging out with friends drinking beers or whatever. There are lots of things you can do to make unenjoyable experiences enjoyable experiences, but I don't think it's then fair to make the later a condition for doing the former.

What Vargas said. Of course you can take money out of the equation, but why would you? Practically any game is at least decent if it's free. In this case, though, Kinect Star Wars just doesn't seem worth 50 bucks. To me at least, but if you like it, I won't stop you. ;)

Wasn't the whole point of Happy Action Theatre to be a game for groups of drunk people and children? I think it's fair to say that in the right environment certain games can be fun or are more fun than they would be in the usual video game environment.

That said, some of these mini games look on the verge of being broken. And not in a "oh no Kinect is freaking out" kinda way.

No love for a franchise should be so strong that you defend its most shallow exploits. Star Wars has no story left to tell, no facet of the universe left to explore, nothing whatsoever to justify its continued presentation other than to make money off of fans. Yet nothing seems to be bad enough to break the Star Wars cycle, so people will probably still be seeing the same goofy imagery and hearing the same bombastic music when we as a species actually do fight wars in space.

Posted by Kevin_Cogneto

Is that a fake Anthony Daniels? Boy, you know a Star Wars game is bad when even Anthony Daniels refuses to participate. That guy is in every piece of Star Wars media ever made, usually you can't stop him from doing a C3PO voice.

Posted by EmoMcGee

And to think Kinect is gonna be part of the next console. Getting games like this on launch isn't gonna feel good.

Is that Greg Proops (Whose Line/Mad World) doing the commentary for the pod racing?

This. Also keep in mind, the Kinect is still a $100 piece of equipment, and this is a $50 game. I own a Kinect and I still can't legally drink, so... how exactly then am I supposed to enjoy this game? My friends and I can't (or at least, aren't supposed to) just 'crack open some of those beers' and 'enjoy' a stupid mini-game collection like this, and frankly, I shouldn't have to. This is a shallow, piece of shit minigame collection that has no right being defended as a game or Star Wars propert, and unlike Double Fine's $15 downloadable game that reveled in how broken Kinect was, this takes itself somewhat seriously. Plus, I can get drunk, stupidly flail around and dance horribly to music without dropping all that money on unintuitive equipment.

They're cynical and sour towards this because a year and a half later, the only things worth playing are some minigames, some (albeit creative, i.e. Gunstringer, Child of Eden) railshooters, and a few dancing games. I'm holding out hope that Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor turns out alright, but they've also been allowed to admit that Kinect has it's shortcomings and incorporated a controller.
