Yeah! Actually played through the game, but I'm still gonna watch this. This game is awesome!

Can't wait to see this one.

Cool deal. PC version will still perform better than the console version. For some ppl that'll be enough.

Thank you so much for doing this! I've been looking everywhere for some solid gameplay and commentary on the PC version.

Posted by jmrwacko

Thanks guys. I was told horrible rumors about the PC version, it's good to actually see it being played and compared to consoles.

sticking with TF2 for a while longer.

@Nemesis: You obviously have no idea what the PC players are upset about.

very cool, thanks for the look into IWnet!

Posted by JoelTGM

excellent.  by the way, the Steam version will be available on the 11th at 9 PM PST now, not the 12th anymore.  So this is good news!  but it also means I won't have much time to play it... but hey at least I'll be playing it "early" :)

Posted by WrenchNinja

Uh...only one mode is 9vs.9. The rest are 6vs.6.

Posted by MassiveDuck

sweet! but can i play on a dedicated server?

Posted by captain_clayman

seriously i don't even play that many PC games but no dedicated servers is just kinda lame.
how hard would it have been to throw it in there?  it's like they deliberately took them out.

That's exactly the problem most of us are having. The fact that the game is basically a strait console port. No mod support, no dedicated servers, stupid connection bars instead of numbers so that they can hide ping, and this whole IWNET service that is going to charge us for map packs and probably other content that otherwise would be free through mods or patches.
Posted by MAST

Yeah, seems like it works just fine. As per usual, all the internet bitching, and overreacting was completely unnecessary...

Posted by Crushed

Ugh. Some noticeable lag in that video, and the 6v6 limit in TDM is utterly painful and makes it feel so empty.

It's a shame, the actual gameplay looks really nice and improved over COD4, but the multiplayer being gimped and the $10 extra charge ruin it.

6v6 in 2009?  One word:  Progress!
Posted by SlapChop

When a person needs to get used to a mouse and keyboard I doubt they care about lag in general. Thanks for the effort anyway!

It (MW2) is less repugnant but from what you've shown I'll buy it used on the PS3 and sell it when I'm done.

Posted by HCARyan

MW2 is a console game now.  PC gamers shouldn't expect an amazing PC port much like they wouldn't with a game like Gears of War or Halo.  It's time to move on, there are better PC games out there.

Posted by buckybit

needs IPv6 only mode - NAT is so 60s

Non PC gamer talking about PC gaming, GTFO

@HCARyan: It's a sad state of affairs though, because CoD wasn't a console series that happened to be on the PC, it was a PC series that eventually ended up becoming a hit on consoles. I still see CoD as a PC series, and the treatment of this PC version is unacceptable.

So what do the bars equate to in terms of ping? 3 bars could be 200 ping and with no control over network settings it could just all be interpolation making you feel like there is no lag no matter what?

Also I dont also understand how they compare private match to a dedicated server. Dedicated server allows for your community people PLUS randoms which helps the community itself grow. I know I don't want to play with JUST my friends every time.

Don't try to act like 6v6 is all you can do in this game. It's called "options." I think most of you have actually constructed some magical place in your minds where everything about the PC version of MW2 is garbage, and there is no way you are ever going to concede that notion. You'll probably be telling your grandkids stories about how Infinity Ward broke your heart, and committed Hitler-like atrocities.

Fact is, it works just fine, and most game journalists (including the ones on this website) are posting videos or blog posts saying that exact thing. It's just fine!

Such fail.
The problem is that we DID get equal treatment. On the PC, we have higher standards, such as having dedicated servers and mod support, which the PC version doesn't support, and as such, is a huge step back from CoD4 PC in terms of functionality. Having said that, it's not that it makes it a bad game or anything, it's just clearly not designed as a PC game like CoD4 was.

I think Gears of War, Left 4 Dead and Borderlands, along with Blackhawk Down and Frontlines: Fuel of War have all established pretty fucking clearly that more players doesn't mean shit.  Not that I'm trying to defend this game, I'm not interested in it, but I know it is a well made game so I keep my mouth shut about it.

Nice quick look on the PC version and how it runs. I'm happy that I got the PC version.

So much anger, so much resentment, so much acne. Get a grip people, the game is fine without dedicated servers. Move on with your life.

Game balance is what matters. BF2 works for 18v18 and up. TF2 works for 12v12. What's your point. I was just pointing out his comment saying there are options, when there aren't. Even in TF2 I could choose to play 16v16 instant spawn, but I rarely do. Some people enjoy that and they have the option to play that way. Here you don't.

This man speaks the truth. Anyone looking for a great online PC experience should go get Team Fortress 2. It's developed for the PC, not the other way around, and it is supported through dedicated servers, where you choose the map you want to play on, the connection you have, if you want mods or not, if you'd like to play on a family friendly server or not, if you want to play with 10 or 20 or 30 or 40 people...the list goes on.

ACiT is still awesome.

I'm kinda ok with the fact they took out dedi servers now. Seeing stuff like cash flying out of your body just makes the game seem a bit goofy and it looks like they weren't really focusing the game for serious competitive play like the original. Still can't wait to play the game, should be coming in the post tomorrow for me, but yeah, there seems to be a different vibe to this game compared to CoD4.

its 1337, just mad about not having dedicated servers

Edited by buckybit

Some stuff, said by Jeff and in these comments, about the never ending topic PC vs Console I thought was pretty provocative

Dedicated Servers would allow people to rip & crack the game as they wish, playing it outside the reach of developers and publishers. No metrics, no feedback, no stats for them to track and/or improve or market or sell stuff. That kind of independence is on a losing track nowadays. I guess, that's what Jeff meant when he said "PC Gaming arrived in the modern days" or something along that line.

"... btw, wouldn't mind watching a Jeff playthrough and comparing it to zeroXshinobi's on youtube"

Posted by Hamz

Nice of the GB crew to be one of the only (to my knowledge as of this writing) sites showing extensive footage of the PC version of the game to alleviate any doubts, fears or anger over it.

Good stuff :)

Posted by RIDEBIRD

Still not really gonna buy it, mostly because of their attitude (I am well aware my purchase means nothing, but hey, I like PC gaming). The price doesn't help either.

A good incentive to buy a game, contrary to popular developer/publisher belief, is a decent price, lack of DRM and freedom to the customer.

I've been playing various matches online and I can tell you that there's tons of lag issues right now. I'm not sure if it's IWnet that's overloaded, or whether IWnet itself is inherently messed up (and all the petitioners were right). But like yeah, a lot of the fears people had about the PC version have came true. At least in my experiences so far today. And I was one of the ones who was telling everyone to relax about the petition stuff. Now that I've given IWnet a chance, I'm back on the fence about this whole thing. Some maps seem pretty lag free. But I'd say most of the games I've played so far - unreasonable amounts of lagging. And that's with zero downloads or uploads going. And on a really fast computer. Take it for what it's worth.

It is too bad there is no mod support for this one, the first MW had some awesome ones.

How do you know he's not a PC gamer? He actually made a perfectly valid point. Don't expect any of these games primarily made for consoles to be good on the PC because almost everyone of them is pretty bad to terrible on PC.
Edited by TheFrostedGamer

Also I'd like to say I really don't like how strangers can't join my Spec Ops mode game. It's only people on my Steam friends list (which doesn't exist because I don't have friends on Steam - I just buy games on Steam). So that suck ass royally in comparison to Nazi Zombie mode in World at War, which anyone could join.

Starting to think that, if I had known some of these things pre-purchase, I totally would not have bought this game. Heh.

If you're coming from that angle: I see HALO as a PC Game, before Microsoft bought Bungie and turned HALO into a XBOX launch title. Doesn't change a thing now, does it? ;)

hows the multiplayer outside of the US. Anyone?

Interesting quick look.

Posted by Light_Bahamut

Yo Jeff, you get smoked 'cause you sprint too much. Sprinting all the time on the PC equals getting capped, yo.

Posted by Sarumarine

Jeff doesn't like trucks or Smuckers jam smeared on his face. Got it. Heh.

That was pretty sweet how Jeff just casually wasted that guy with the .44 revolver. Revolvers are sweet.

Thanks again to giantbomb for treating the PC with respect.  This quick look was very nice and shows the multiplayer off well for my PC buddies on my forums, so I will be sending them links so they see it is not the end of the world.

Got the game last night at Wal-Mart and am loving it.
