I wonder what a mulholland drive game would be. Probably a bad game.

also Dan, Gesture? really? I can understand the foliage thing. But I don't think i've heard anyone mispronounce gesture. You never disappoint. Thanks, Dan.

Keys are such a useful thing to have around a house. Watched purely for the interesting Last Crusade fact Drew had.

I can understand not liking Blade Runner or not really paying attention to it. That's reasonable.

Unlike saying Terminator 3 is the best one. Which is complete nonsense.

Luckily he never said Terminator 3 is the best.

Unluckily, while it's true he didn't say that in this Quick Look, "never" is a strong word, and Dan Rykert did indeed say that Terminator 3 was the best one when he appeared on the Bombcast.

You know, I'm with him to a certain point, I too think Terminator 2 is a better movie than The Terminator, but then he has to go and ruin everything by making crazy talk about Terminator 3. :P

I gave Drew crap for not finding the station gate in Elite: Dangerous, but I can't blame him for this. This game is hot garbage.

Dan and Drew quicklooks have become the main reason I visit Giantbomb

I have ti admit that the moment at 35:00 is pretty scary. Spend lots of time opening doors and looking for keys until finally something surprising happens. And then when you think the game will be something greater...MORE KEYS!

Also, now that I've read the comments, I have to jump in here and say that Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? is a way better book than Blade Runner is a movie, director's cut or no.

I'm surprised how many people in these comments seem to be completely unaware of the era of pre-rendered CG adventure/horror games.

Aha! Dan is a replicant and his trying to downplay the issue of whether he's seen Blade Runner is an obvious ploy to hide his true identity.

To be fair, that's pretty easy to do. Gone Home was amazing.

Also not a horror game in any way but that's neither here nor there.

I'm not frustrated by the fact that Dan hasn't really seen Blade Runner or that he may not even like the movie, it's that he doesn't recognize the significance of the film in American pop culture and its influence on an entire genre. He acts like he has no reason to know what Blade Runner is. That's like not knowing what Star Wars is. It's baffling!

I want to like Dan, as the majority of others here already do. He seems like a nice guy and is a good fit for the site on paper, but he keeps revealing these little things about himself that make me think he doesn't fit in at all. There are times where he really makes me laugh and can coax some more comedy out of the others. Then there are times where he ruins a joke by asking for an explanation. I've also lost patience for the way he associates everything with another video game. Once and a while is fine, we all do it, but sometimes a game mechanic is just a mechanic, not an excuse to list every single individual video game that has that mechanic.

I'm sorry to sound like an asshole. When someone's work is essentially to be a personality, it's hard to judge their work without judging the person. I just feel like I'm the only one who hasn't been sold on the new dynamics of the site. And I don't want to just walk away; I love Giant Bomb.

.... who cares?

General Cree P. Vibe is one of the most terrifying villains in all of history. The maddening military key smith is known to hide his wares around various old manors throughout the known world. His victims number in the several. The cruel fates of those that aimlessly stumble into one his his many trap-houses have become quite annoyed and confused. Moments of frustration etched into their eternal souls.

His time in the military drove him to obsess about multiple key styles and their corresponding door locks.

That isn't a monocle either. In a door locking accident at Pavilion Park, General Vibe broke his rounded glasses and in a fit of brilliant key rage he decided to salvage his one intact lens.

Still today they say millions of keys of his making are hidden in cottages around the globe. He is aware of your fear!

History's greatest monster.

Guys, before you go saying that Dan needs to see Blade Runner, keep in mind, this is Dan. Does Blade Runner seem like something he'd like? I mean, I love Blade Runner, but even I admit, that movie is pretty boring if you're not into it. For all I know, maybe he would really like it, but just keep in mind that like many people, Dan has his own particular (and sometimes strange) opinions and tastes. And that saying it in the comments isn't going to magically make it happen.

Hell, I love basically everything about Blade Runner (sci-fi noir, Shitty Future, androids, etc) but think the movie itself is actually pretty bad.

And how did you arrive at that conclusion?

@moth_pope: Believe me, I'm not trying to undermine what Dan brings to the site. I can understand how cramming all the little things that irk me into one comment may read like an overreaction, but my goal was to get it out of my system and never complain about Dan again. I'm just as frustrated with myself, because it seems like everyone else has already adjusted, and as you say, I'm missing something.

Avatar image for moth_pope

@melos: Can you honestly read your comment back to yourself and not see it as a huge overreaction? I agree, Dan is different to most of the GB staff - past and present - but if you think he doesn't fit in then you're definitely missing something. Vinny's move to the other coast and the hiring of Dan has been the best thing to happen to this site for a long time. The content has been non-stop, but more importantly it's been fresh and entertaining. Dan is a massive part of that, and him being different to the other guys has made it all work. Ever since GB began people have feared change and evolution, and there's no issue with you not liking someone's personality (Patrick grates on me sometimes, but that's my issue), but at least let Dan find his footing and get settled before getting on his back too much. People just like to pick flaws.

Okay, within the first five minutes, Dan has revealed that a) he hasn't seen Bladerunner; b) he doesn't think Blair Witch Project is scary; c) he is unsure of how to pronounce 'foliage'.

This is not worth $15. At least do something, anything, within the first hour to get the player interested to want to continue playing.

Having identical looking keys for identical looking doors is just ridiculous. They could have used some color coding scheme or used shapes or something.

Just poor game design overall.

@namco51: I've never played Myst.

So I'm rather curious, the people who didn't like Blade Runner or got bored... which version did ya'll watch?

The film is very intentionally ambiguous with some things and low-key, but I've never been confused or bored by it? But that's totally personal preference. I don't expect everyone to be super into it.

@guerrilla_mason: Your loss :( It's worth checking out. Nobody will give you shit if you don't like it, and if they do they are simply asshats. It's one of those movies I think most people should see at least once in their life.

Maybe it's just because I first saw Blade Runner a few years ago, but I thought it was just alright. The visuals were excellent, but had influenced other works to such an extent over the years that it wasn't that interesting as a stand alone thing. And I had had the ending spoiled before I saw it, and I find it hard to believe that there would be anyone left that didn't have that happen to them. The TVTrope title is, I believe, Seinfeld Is Unfunny. A work so influential that it's viewed as generic.

(As a kid, I totally thought that Blade Runner was about a Battle Skater (like future high-cost roller derby or something) and his evil android enemy on the other team. So.)

I've tried to watch Blade Runner twice, and couldn't finish it both times. I really wanted to like it.
