excited!

Dying to play this game, just have to finish up my current FF8 playthrough ^^

Posted by Tha36thchamber

It's a fun game, if you're into ol' school RPGs

Posted by Marmalade

Have no idea what this game is about, but turn based bee fighting on the moon sounds pretty dope!

Posted by boxoflawls

moon rainbow powa!

Posted by ckeats

Sweet, bought this the same time as Dyad cause it was on sale, still haven't touched it.

Posted by Tha36thchamber

Also should say if this Quick Look makes you interested in this type of game, Final Fantasy Tactics is only $10 on the PS Store as a PS1 Classic, and it's a much better game.

Posted by TwoLines

This looks poor. It's slick, but the combat doesn't seem fun. But who am I to say, I loved Tactics Ogre, but hated Final Fantasy Tactics.

Posted by Village_Guy

I do like Rainbows... So is there any Ponies? Or even better any Dashing Ponies with Rainbows?

Perhaps a Rainbow Dash?

This looks like it'll be good.

There's a trophy for playing this game for 100 hours. Yeah.........

Oh Brad...

The whole "get the final hit to level" is the worst thing about SRPGs. Unless you spend every battle trying to get killing blows with side characters it just leads to a really weak party with 1 or 2 strong guys who get all the kills.

Posted by Drakoji

Brad doesn't seem to get that people play dungeon crawlers and game like that for the systems, not the story per say.

Edited by Winsord

The leveling up system in this game seems like a real pain. It sounds like they intentionally designed it to be annoying or difficult so that maybe you want to throw down some micro-transaction money and/or artificially lengthening most aspects of it. It seems like it's well made otherwise and maybe sort of fun, but no, thanks.

Earning experience from the killing blow is a dumb SRPG design trope that only bad SRPGs implement. Sad. I was kind of interested in this.

Agreed, feels like they wanted to be kinda old school with it, I remember a lot of old SRPGs doing the same thing and hating it. Also, the art style isn't doing it for me.

Looked like you can grind that stuff out on those one-shot kill imps though. Seems still faster than in a Nippon Ichi game.

I dunno, I loved FFT and I think you hit the nail on the head. I don't have any hate for OT, though, more like indifference. Seemed like a solid SRPG back when I first played it in the PS1 days and when I gave the series another shot on GBA years later, but it didn't grab the same way FFT did for whatever reason.

Posted by Hyperfludd

Eh..I'm not feeling it.

Those microtransactions ARE icky.

Posted by fox01313

Game doesn't seem too bad on the look of it but just finding the idea that everything is item/timer based but more so the weird leveling mechanic just turns me off wanting to play it.

Posted by TwoLines

@MattClassic: Well, I shouldn't have said "hate", it just never clicked with me. I guess even games in a small sub-genre can be very much different from each other. I also played Joanne D'Arc, which is fine, but nothing special, and Disgaea 1 and 2, which were fantastic. Especially the first one.

I really wish there were more SRPGs...

Edited by MattClassic

@TwoLines: Man, I'd settle for just a new Vandal Hearts game. Imagine what those ridiculous 10ft high arterial sprays rendered with modern tech would look like. Particle effects for days.

True, but I'm more inclined to stick with a Nippon Ichi games through the grind for the craziness. This just looks kinda dull.

Man I wish this type of free to play game would come out on the 360.

There was a new vandal hearts for XBL, it was awful.

Posted by TwoLines

@MattClassic: Oh man, Vandal Hearts! It's been a long time since I've played that one. I don't even know how well it holds up.

Vandal Hearts 1 holds up great. 2 is crap, but it sort of always was.

I would probably play some this if it were on Vita, seems like a good fit.

Posted by Stormdragonblue

My kind of game. There are not enough tactical RPG's. But the entire way the systems work sounds a bit too annoying and frustrating in the long run so unsure. A potential pickup in a sale but not up front for now at least.

"who would eat a guerilla!?" Ryan effing Davis

Posted by ArbitraryWater

This game looks like it takes a page out of the Nippon Ichi playbook of being hella grindy.

Posted by MeatSim

Nobody is gonna want to live on Rainbow Moon until you deal with that bee infestation.

Posted by Sticky_Pennies

I went from interested to zero the moment I heard the parts in the quick look discussing the level system and microtransactions.

Posted by HarlechQuinn

Hmmm... Still not sure about this, but as I still haven't finished "Tactics Ogre: Let us cling together" I don't need another SRPG at the moment...

Oooh and on the nit-picky side, the publisher is from Hong Kong while the actual developer is from Germany.

Posted by Sarumarine

Small Gorilla is a delicacy in Rainbow Moon.

Posted by Oginam

I don't need my tactics rpgs to be twice as long purely due to free-to-play induced grinding. Game play looks alright though.

Shining force was awesome. I don't know what you're talking about.
Posted by TheBrainninja

Wow, this is an SRPG-ass SRPG. Seems like opinions are divided amongst SRPG fans, but this is very much not for me at all. Thanks for letting me know, Brad!

Wouldn't you be better off with a better game and no microtransaction-BS if you bought the PSP/PSOne Classics versions of Tactics Ogre:Let us cling together and/or Final Fantasy Tactics for your Vita?

Posted by megalowho

@DeF: Sure, those are great games (esp. Tactics Ogre). Still feels like this belongs on that platform as well.

Posted by PatchMaster

It just wouldn't be a proper quick look without somebody randomly using the term "amalgamation".

Posted by gamergutz

@fox01313: same here, turned off slightly but, i think its still worth checking out. I think you get a discount with PlayStation Plus, sh!t it might be free soon.

This game is for weirdos like me who actually enjoy level grinding. There are dozens of us. Dozens!

Edited by asmo29a

This was more informative than I thougt. Thanks for "taking the hit" and playing this more than your average QL game, Brad! I was a bit bummed last week when it looked like there would be no coverage on this game, so it's much appreciated.

Posted by Phatmac

For some reason I really dislike the art style. It looks like deviant art.

Agreed! I freakin' love this game and its grindy goodness. Doesn't hurt either that I'm a fan of the stat-building and such!

I'm really pleased with Brad's coverage on this. Very informative and covers both the best and worst of the game.
