Definitely weird. I have no trouble navigating the 360 dashboard with the original Kinnect, so it's a shame that no progress has been made on the software side which is ultimately drives voice recognition. The reason Siri works so much better is because you agree to submit voice samples in that app just for using it, it's a pre-requisite, unlike the 360/One where it's optional.

Now can we have a Kinect-less SKU?

The snap in stuff could be cool for slower games like Minecraft where its nice to have something else running to listen/half-watch, but that UI looks like a nightmare. With my Desktop computer I can run XBMC through my TV, play the audio and video through that TV for only XBMC then run a game or anything else on my main display while using my desktops normal speakers. They can act independently of each other even though they are coming from the same computer.

The Xbox Snap stuff needs to be controlled without losing focus on the game or its going to be real bad. Imagine snapping in a skype chat and while that's loading in your game of Cod of Duty has started. To start the video chat with your friend you have to very awkwardly switch between menu focus and with the voice commands it could take 30+ seconds. That's as bad as accidentally alt+tabbing.

If you could do the snap window stuff with a separate remote (perhaps your phone) without losing focus it would be decent enough even if it is on a pokey console.

I used this last night and it was pretty useful. Was playing Forza 5 while watching the Patriots/Broncos game on the side via snap. Audio was fine but the video was choppy when in snap, but stuff like that will get ironed out.

As a huge xbox360 user, they have done so much to make me not want to get the xbox one. Watch tv in a tiny screen while I play: no thanks. I almost don't watch tv anyway. I also don't want the kinect dongle at all. I've been using my laptop to watch GB and other content while i've been playing certain games and it is so much better than this. There is so much stuff in the Xbox one I don't want so I'm not even considering getting one atm. I might have to jump ship if they don't get it together. Fifa 14 free in europe: no thanks, i'll never play it.

Also, you're reciting all these commands 3 times a piece and you still have a controller in your hands...Kinda renders it pointless? I'd rather use the controller.

One of the worst scenes in movie history was in this Quick Look.

The only use of voice recognition I can see for stuff like this is to do searches (such as "list all Discovery/BBC/ESPN channels" in the TV guide, which is a kind of command I hope is already in there) or writing messages, since gamepads aren't exactly great for text input, everything showcased here seemed like stuff that's much easier to just do with the controller.

I think Jeff just proved that speech recognition is still shit and not worth it.

Who the fuck watches live tv? Old people that don't know what cable is, let alone a DVR. Not exactly Xbox's core audience. Seriously, not being able to control your DVR, and working roughly half the time make me wonder why this exists. I could see myself using the snap feature to watch a live sporting event while I did something mundane in a game like training mode in a fighting game. A good fighting game though, not Killer Instinct.

Let's put all this effort into the TV watching experience when OnDemand is more popular than ever and traditional cable is dying.

Every video I have seen of all the sites using the kinect for navigation or tv has been sketchy which lefts worried about my own experience. However since I got it yesterday I haven't had much trouble getting any features to work. I'm genuinely impressed with how well the kinect works for xbone. Maybe it's just the offices that are causing sound problems?

Why don't they put in a 'Teach Kinect command' ?

If there is an obscure channel you want to watch then on that channel on the guide it could have an option of a Teach Kinect Command and it listens to you saying in less than 5 seconds 'Xbox Obscure Channel' etc

This TV stuff doesn't look bad as a receiver, but the voice commands stuff still seems fairly awful.
