Great to see you guys playing this.

the tricaster flips over vinny, why dont you flip it over?

Posted by mlarrabee

I "got" to work while this went on, so I'm very, very happy it's up today!

Now if only there was a way to ensure Random PC Games every week... Or every day...

Edited by Vrikk

I just want to say that this game is great. Very underrated.

Also:

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.

Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.

I've watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate.

All those ... moments will be lost in time, like tears...in rain.

Time to die."

To those who have already watched this, where does it rank for a Random PC Game segment?

I'm downloading it right now to watch later.

I'm having a mild panic attack...I had no idea of this game's existence until just now.

Posted by Brandino

Drew, Vinny and Dave? These guys need their own podcast. Could call it DVDCAST!

Posted by csl316

Excellent, DVD on RPG will probably cure me of this flu.

Posted by m16mojo2

I'm shocked at how well this game has held up.

I have been curious about this game for years. thank you, giantbomb!

Random old PC game, happy

Ooohh ssshhh this brings back a ton of memories!

Sad that I missed this live.

Fantastic game, I am really excited to watch this!

I remember playing this on a friends PC while my other friends watched South Park.

Good times.

SO much potential with this game. I remember the promises of randomly decided replicants, the real time activities, opposing Blade Runners who would pick up clues you missed and get your mark before you do, holding off on uploading clues to the police database for the same reason, all sorts of crazy, ambitious stuff.

Beautiful game they ended up with, and still a lot of fun, but not so variable. Bunch of things that don't get used like the conversation moods and the whole clue/suspect database. And I didn't care for the blatant Roy Batty knockoff as a main villain, but ah well. Still a fine adventure.

It's no Phantasmagoria, but nothing ever will be. It's good.

This was up there with Police Quest and Phantasmagoria. Just reminds me how great this damn site is. *single tear*

I'm not a fan of the movie, but that scene...so good ^_^

I'm so stoked to revisit this. I owned it and played it a lot, but I don't really have fond (fun) memories.

I remember a lot of "McCoy - 88F."

Edited by Sammo21

I still own this game. Was cool when it was out. Had some of the original actors in it.

ENHANCE!

Man, I remember I was pissed when they killed my dog.

Seems like Vinny is only ever trying to break the game, lol.

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt in that maybe he got the production dates wrong and thought Blade Runner came out last, but I winced when he said that. There is little that can top Grim Fandango adventure-wise.

Never knew about this, but it looks like fun. Endurance run!

How the hell did I miss this live? Thank God for archives; I've been waiting for them to do this game since Random PC Game began.

I have some pretty vivid memories of the Blade Runner game because I think it was the first PC game I ever owned. I remember clicking on the evidence over and over, amazed that it was read aloud. I remember not having any idea what I was supposed to be doing, just going all over the city clicking on everything until something new happened. Most of all, I remember finding that strip club in the game and being like, "WHOA! I can kind of see boobs!"

Fond memories, indeed. R.I.P. Westwood Studios.

Yeah, duders, obviously Grim. Hence the hyperbole with trepidation, knew someone would think up a game I couldn't.

Posted by Catarrhal

I've always wanted to play this, ever since reading the review in Next Generation

Posted by mrfluke

RUNN RUNNNNNN is easily one of my favorite pieces from any random pc game

Posted by Geralt

I never finished it. So glad they picked this game...now how about X-Files?

Posted by Draxyle

It's really impressive how good this looks, considering it was released in the same year as FF7 of all things (I think?). I had never even heard of this game before; I had expected much worse from an older, licensed product.

This was almost too "tame" for a random PC game, until the gun shop owner and explosion parts.

FUHK DAT, F5 for quick save and F9 for quick load.

F6 is way too close to quick save.

This game looks genuinely amazing!

God, I love Blade Runner, and I love Random PC Game.

Posted by joshthebear

Goddamn I love everything about Blade Runner.

Posted by Aelric

I played, beat and loved this game multiple times. Who is a replicant is randomized every time.

Posted by oldjack327

I haven't watched yet, but I just had to say that God I love this game. It's deeply flawed, and more a randomly determined choose your own adventure than a standard point and click puzzle game... but damn is it cool. Wish I still had it.

Posted by ChrisTaran

Man, why did voxels never take off? They look amazing in this game. Using today's tech they'd be even more so.

oh man super psyched to see this is already uploaded, was hoping I'd be able to watch it tonight

Two of my favourite things in one video!

So was this played via straight DOSBOX, DOSBOX running Windows 3.1, or Windows 7? Was it mentioned later in the stream? I own this game but when I got it in 1999, the PC I had was Win 98 (just moved out, so it was my first PC) and there was an issue with the drive format system they went to w/ Win 98 and the Westwood help page wasn't very helpful at the time. So I've seen that intro plenty, but it would crash once I tried to actually do something at that first crime scene.

I don't know if I would understand any of it myself, but Dave linked this on twitter after the stream, which is apparently what got it working on Windows 7 for them.

@snide: I honestly think this *is* the last great adventure game in that this is the path the genre should have taken instead of being obsessed with single-solution, rail-roaded moon-logic puzzles a la The Longest Journey. I will never forgive Funcom for subjecting me to all those puzzles that fly in the face of causality.

I played this game TWICE back in the day. Those characters looked so shitty. The worst part is when you come upon the guy the Jamaican guy killed and you just see blocky chunks everywhere.

Posted by tread311

Man I played this game last year and had the same issue with the bomb scene. Apparently it's a problem with playing the game on a modern machine. I stumbled through it eventually like they did but later read if you use Turbo to throttle your processor it will work as intended.

Can we all agree on this order?

  1. Phantasmagoria
  2. Police Quest: SWAT
  3. Ripper
  4. Burn: Cycle
  5. Blade Runner

Ach mein gott! This game still holds up pretty well. How did I missed this in my younger days?
