Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham Knight Arrives This Year

Thank you for the laughs. Swell looking CGI trailer, indeed. So good, that I had to visit Blur's site, since someone mentioned them. Didn't know they made that awesome Overstrike Fuse one too!

Anyway, despite being a CGI trailer, I feel like I can still count on Rocksteady delivering some top-notch quality with this game as well.

A Batman ready to fuck some shit up.

Origins was mediocre, but still enjoyable. Really looking forward to see what changes to the formula Rocksteady has planned.

How is Batman able to produce force to alter the arc of his jump mid-air? Is Batman a wizard or a monk?

@joshwent: To be fair, Origins wasn't a Rocksteady game. A lot of people wrote off that game because it wasn't as such. People were hesitant about a new Batman game being developed by somebody else and what they got was a Batman game that felt different from Asylum or City. Switching developers does that to games.

Anybody else stop after Arkham Asylum like me? I think Asylum is an amazing game but didn't like Arkham City so much after playing a decent amount of it. I guess it's because I don't care about Batman at all and that great combat can only carry me so far.

Another evacuated city? Same villain designs? Same look?

I'm out. I didn't even consider getting Origins and by the end of City I'd had enough. I loved Asylum, but City just wasn't that good a game. Hardly anyone noticed because you got ot run around as Batman. Very disappointed Rocksteady have apparently gone so safe. A city with people in it was a challenge they should have risen to instead of concoting yet another idiotic story excuse.

And the end of the video pimping pre-order crap. Brilliant. Nope.

This is the least interesting game Rocksteady could've made. I thought they were making a Silver Age game or at least a new Metroid Prime or new IP. Allow me to dominate the conversation by continually making assertions that this is a waste of Rocksteady's time and asking whether we really needed a 3rd or 4th Arkham Asylum Game. Imagine when it comes up if that's what people say they get their hands on it and that even those who find it exceptional temper their praise by saying the game is decidedly uninteresting compared to the games they could've made. Wouldn't that suck and be gross? Well maybe it would be if this was the second in the last 5 years instead of the 4th in the last 5 years. Okay point made joke over.

Seriously though I really would've liked something new in art style, tone, look and was seriously expecting something Silver Age. Jokes aside this is disappointing.

origin was ok for me nothing great but didn't hate it but Rocksteady are the masters.

Judging by the opening dialogue and "facing your fears" I'm guessing we've got Scarecrow at the helm? Of course, there's probably another big bad pulling the strings above him.

I would say there'd be a turf war now that Arkham City is no longer a thing, but clearly Two-Face, Harley & Penguin are working along JUUUUUUUST fine. And we've already had Ra's try to destroy Gotham once, so I'm going to guess he's out.

Although Hush or Azrael would make sense since they hinted at them in the last game and this trailer implies preserving the Wayne/Batman name and what it means to Gotham.

Origins had some neat story ideas, but man! was it buggy! When I think of arkham asylum, I think of a really tight and well designed experience. Origins was anything but that, haphazard and unbalanced.

I'll take some convincing to pick this one up.

I am so ready for a proper Rocksteady Batman game. It being "next-gen" only is great. Origins did nothing for me.

Is it bad that Blur has set such high standards for themselves that this type of awesome near photorealistic trailer is just expected from them these days. I feel like it would be big news if one of their trailers didn't look outstanding. That said, I thought the cape animation rocked in this trailer. Batman trailers I always feel are among their least impressive just because of the smaller scale of the series compared to some of the other stuff they do.

@thethirdrlm: You're crazy. Akrham Origins: Blackgate was the companion game to that, released on Vita and 3DS at the time of that game's launch.

Anyway, I hope this game really evolves the existing mechanics signficantly and more than the slight updates in the last game, and learns from all the full-fledged open world games of the last few years too in their depth and scope.

Well, as the title implies, Origins is a prequel, so it doesn't expand on the story as it hasn't happened yet in that game. It's about Batman having to deal with a bounty being placed on his head on Christmas eve which has brought assassins from all over the world to collect. It narrows down into a much more personal story, though, which I thought was incredibly well done at the end. The boss fights, which I thought were the biggest weak points of Asylum and City (except for the amazing Mr. Freeze battle), are for the most part also creative and awesome, with a bigger focus on actually using the same moves you use in regular combat in unique ways.

It does feel like more of an expansive DLC than its own game, though, so if you go in with the right expectations, you should dig it.

Harley Quinn does not look like Arkham City Harley. If this takes places after AC, the character models should be the same.

@joshwent: Origins was actually a better game than City, despite some bugs and issues like the shock gloves imbalancing combat. It had a better story, and it didn't have everyone making super creepy remarks about Catwoman and Harley. And calling them bitches like every 3 seconds.

But yeah, it got a bad rap for half of the map being reused from City.

Looks pretty damn good to me. Next Gen Only and made by Rocksteady? Sign me up!

I'm forever saddened they keep screwing up Harleys outfit. It should be the red/black one piece unitard with the jester hat. They keep making her look like an Oktoberfest bar wench.

@alex: Alex, Origins was by far the best Arkham game in terms of story. It was really really good, and it's a shame if you miss it. The character development of Batman and his rogues gallery was unparalleled. It helps that it also had some of the best boss fights around.

That is one of the best trailers I've seen in a long long time. So glad I got a gaming PC last year!

Yeah, totally fair. I think Origins was also dismissed, and reasonably so, for just coming out too soon after city. It just pains me a little because the story and boss fights in that one were really good, for me the best of the series, and regardless it just seems to be doomed as the black sheep.

The only thing that bothers me in that trailer is the pre-order DLC is already announced.

I mean of course there will be pre-order bonuses, that's just how things are now. I just don't want to know about it 7-8 months before release in the first reveal trailer.

This industry needs a healthy dose of class injected in it asap.

Origins was a perfectly fine, checklist sort of sequel. I enjoyed myself.

All the characters look different in this CGI trailer. I do hope for consistent character models.
