Skyrim's 'Hearthfire' DLC Brings Domestic Life to the Dragonborn

This is so dumb. Why would anyone pay money for this?

Seems like a whole horse armour thing again, a bit more content, but something that should have been there from the beginning. I could be wrong, but It seems like the 'design your own house' thing is just the same as how the 'decorate your house' worked, where you can just choose to buy stuff... or not. Not much choice in layout or what-have-you. So basically just stick to modding out your own home?

Unless you can build a pool, get all your kids in it, and then delete the swimming ladder. In which case, DAY ONE PURCHASE.

This is why Elder Scrolls Online just needs to be a big ass 1st person RPG like Skyrim, I would totally do this shit but don't see the point in a single player game.

And let the waiting continue. I think this is the last timed exclusive. Maybe by the time both Dawngaurd and Hearthfire hit Skyrim on PS3, Bethesda will have their shit together for the next big update to release concurrently.

I just really love the game, and would like more to do.

It's not your bailiwick, that's fine, but given the huge amount of content in Skyrim, that seems a little revisionist to say this should have been included.

ALWAYS better? Come on there are plenty of junky mods out there. And of course free...in the context of a rig that can run some of those beefy mods.

and yet....there is no release date for the PS3 version of Dawnguard still. Yeah, I wasn't going to jump on the Bethesda protest wagon but I'm done with buying any of their games on PS3. Dishonored will be bought used and cheaper at a later date.

This almost seems too funny to be real. And yet, I want to give it a whirl.

This is free right? Give me a crazy huge expansion where you go to Black Marsh or something. Also, I wish they called it Elder Scrolls V: Hearthfire and Dawnguard, like they did with the previous games' add-ons.

Anyway it looks fun in a Harvest Moon kind of way.

Reminds me of a Morrowind mod that I made which was a bit like this. Telvanni mages would expand their stronghold into a small city. The player would buy towers, a mine, an inn, a silt strider, shops, city walls, etc. If the player was ranked-up in a certain faction, they would have a chance to build one of that faction's buildings. This way, the appearance of the city actually reflected the player's progress through the game. No orphan collecting, however, and none of this complex crafting. Ah, nostalgia.

I feel like I'm the only one who thinks this is really cool.

This is exactly what I wanted to do since I started the game. Find some land and build my own awesome house on top. I won't adopt a kid, most likely because whatever, but the rest is cool.

Oh, bethesda you brilliant bastards with this DLC you mix in the addictove qualities of the Sims, with the replayability of minecraft, people will be building and upgrading their houses for the rest of forever.

Joking aside this DLC looks amazing, I fit the niche that this DLC brings. I really hate that Microsoft still has these DLC lock in's, what are Sony doing?

That's the problem with the Minecraft thing... no one cares about other people's stuff. If I had to work with a friend to build a big working castle and then keep it maintained and collectively hire NPC stewards, builders and cooks and so on... now we're talking. Then the castle could end up being populated by interesting NPC characters a la the Normandy from Mass Effect. If I could build my own estate in the next Dragon Age game, and every new wing gives me an opportunity to have more NPC interactions as Mage Character talks about all the books he plans to get for the new library, and so on.

That looks really awesome, I've been home decorating back in fallout 3 and Oblivion as well. Except one question...

Are they going to improve the way you move objects around at all? It pretty much sucks now, trying to set something down on table is hard enough. Put it on a chair, forget it.

Yo when is the DLC that makes Skyrim a decent RPG and not just a lame adventure game comin' out cos I would be all for that.

If you have to ask, you're already late. I personally have 4 home mods installed. Let meshowyoudem. It's kinda how they knew for sure there was a market for it. Now the 360 players can play house too. If nothing else, the official mechanics of player-construction could add another metagame in for the PC modders; so they don't have to switch on everything or pre-determine where the plot of land is, players can just switch on their own preferences.

I can't believe someone hasn't already modded these systems into the game, but I guess an official release is nice, and it's an OK price for the content. Still need to pick up Dawnguard.
