Looks great, but I really hope it doesn't rely on jump scares. Paranoia through immersion is a much more respectable path of horror.

Agreed. I like more WTF environments, not mutants/monsters trying to be scary at the user.. but I think the natural paranoia in reflections / shadows... are what make games even more surreal. Psychological stripped down moments, not overemphasized acting.

I like the fact that some guy goes into an asylum, knowing people have been killed there, and arms himself with nothing but his trusty camera, in HD!! Woo. As soon as he enters the place, he can tell things are in here with him, and STILL doesn't think to arm himself with something. Instead he continues on with his camera.

Great idea buddy! Future Darwin award if I ever saw one, and then I'm expected to actually play as this guy? No thanks.

The premise of the game is that the insane person kills everyone who doesn't help him realize his dream of becoming a monster makeup-artist star on youtube, and so when he sees a young youtuber sneaking in to the asylum he starts chasing him down so you can help him film his shows... I mean, you have an HD cam and all.

The youtuber has ofc. played slender, like any mediocre youtuber out there who wants to be an idiot trying to cater to a horrible fanbase has, and when he sees "the monster" he ofc runs around the asylum with a face-cam, in hopes that he can get a higher view-count.

This is why he is running around with a camera, doing stupid stuff, instead of bringing a gun, or better, staying the hell away. Plot explained! Still a better love story than twilight.

Am I watching the same as the rest of you guys, praising this game? Cause it looks super cliched to me, relying on the same fucking jump scares, whip pans and fake outs as horror movies have been using, and running into the ground, for the last 800 years.

Sure it's a visual treat, but come on. Scary it ain't, you can estimate the spooky beats by clock like precision.

Amnesia + [Rec] + Mirror's Edge?

If I had the nerve to play horror games I would be totally into this.

The trailer gave away how the enemy looks; that mystery is part of what makes a horror experience 'scary'.

Same here! Game looks pretty cool though.

Dumb little thing, but damn I'm so sick of how Unreal engine walls look up close. It's a minor complaint but the beginning of this game shows the glaring nuisance of it's shiny surface texture crap. It just makes the walls look like some weird organic mess instead of a wall.. this might seem like a stupid thing to nag about but this occurs in every game ever! Whatever, maybe Unreal 3.5 will save me from my own little Unreal wall nightmare.

It looks like it's trying to hard to ape Amnesia while at the same time committing every horror cliche it can.

This looks awesome, I swear with this and A machine for Pigs 2013 is the year to invest into steam big time, I think both of these would give me sleepless nights which is a good thing.

Looks awesome. I'd like to see some actual gameplay though. This just looked like a first person in-game cut-scene.

Ah yes, glad to see the Paranormal/found footage school of "loud noises and heavy breathing r super scury u guis!" continues to live. The whole found footage ankle is pretty cool, I guess, but if it's just going to act as your main source of light, I think a flashlight would have been more effective. Also the plot reminds me a bit to much of Wrong Turn 4 (or was it 3?) :P

Interests definitely piqued. Nice to see that not all developers think their games need to leave horror behind and go all out balls to the wall action to get an audience.

I wish horror movies and games would stop using trails of blood, gore, and dead bodies to make games seem scarier. At this point not only have I become desensitized, but I also feel you can do so much more with an environment by leaving it empty and completely open to speculation as to the the things that may have happened there. I also was a bit disappointed by the monster thing in the trailer, as it just ended up being another zombie-type creature. What happened to creativity and nefarious antagonists? I want to play a game and then feel unsafe in my own bed. "BLARGH ZOMBIES" doesn't really do it anymore. It's too bad because I loved the setup and initial premise.

I wonder if it is a horror shooter like dead space or just a horror game where you are basically defenseless like in Amnesia.

@Downloaded: Agreed. I guess we would have to continue looking at older films to enjoy the suspense and use our imagination. It is hard to think of new ways to truly scare people who have been desensitized without having to really throw them into to a real life flight or fight situation. I would suggest Alfred Hitchcock films or even the first Paranormal Activity (wearing headphones and alone). Luckily, there are some scary games out there mostly for the PC.

The entire time he was running around and climbing on crap gives me a Mirror's Edge feel. Like those animations were directly ripped from that game. Will this game involve a lot of climbing and running around while trying to stay away from insane demon man I wonder? Mirror's Edge survival horror?

Also the jerky computer guided camera movements really take me out of it in this preview. Hope it's actually scary in the final version.

I wonder if that wheelchair at the beginning was paying homage to the beginning of Silent Hill 1 where you see a wheelchair on its side with a wheel slowly spinning.

Looks like it takes a lot of inspiration from Amnesia. In fact the trailer is almost identical. I hope they are more original in the game itself. Both are first person and have a woman screaming in the distance and both have panicked breathing.

This also reminds me of the film Quarantine when the night vision is used on the film camera.
