Keep them coming Patrick.

Great!!

hmm well lets watch this play then.

This is the best series Patrick has ever done. Long may it continue.

Does the console version have the optional damsels? I've never seen the man or the dog.

I think Patrick's weakness is trying to kill everything by throwing rocks. I always have much much better luck with the whip or jumping.

The phone call to Max reminded me of the opening to Let's Have A Kiki.

They do. You can find them under the options menu.

You got greedy Patrick, you already had so much money but you wanted more. Greed was your downfall.

I'm not sure I would trust any "advice" from Max Temkin.

This is definitely becoming my favorite feature of the site. Thank you for everything Patrick!

Always be spelunking.

Today's Nooooo count: 1

This is my favorite feature on the site now. At this rate I'm sure it won't take long for Patrick to beat Olmec. I'm hoping he'll keep going with it until he finishes Hell.

This series got me to give spelunky another try, and I'm loving it. The tips are really helpful. Thanks patrick!

This is so great.

Learned a tough lesson at the end there! LOL. Keep up the great work Patrick.

Great stuff!

If you go to 22:15 of my run of today's challenge (http://www.twitch.tv/johnlongview/b/493537888), you can watch me in the same situation as Patrick: no bombs, and I can't remember what happens when you pick up the Idol in the Temple levels.

Spoiler: I decide not to pick it up, and go on to beat Olmec with no bombs, and 1 heart left.

If you open up those shortcuts, you can practice the later areas. Much quicker to learn enemy behaviour and traps that way.

I can't speak for the PS3 / Vita but I know the 360 allows the different damsels like the Steam version. I've used the all 3 / random option in both. Have to imagine it's the same on the other platforms, everything else is.

This is an awesome series, loving it!

This is a fun series and I'm glad it's serving as a tutorial for some people to get more into Spelunky themselves, but @patrickklepek, I think you should kind of... stop explaining things as you play. I'm not trying to say that in a mean "I HATE YOU I HOPE YOU FREEZE IN CHICAGO GET OFF THE SITE HIPPIE" way or whatever. I just mean it in a "consider your audiences" kind of way. Because you have two audiences here:

On one hand, you've got people like me who've already played a bunch of Spelunky, so we already know what everything does. I'd assume this is most of the people watching, but I don't know.

But on the other hand, you've got the people who are new to Spelunky and don't quite get what's going on and should find out on their own. Like you've acknowledged a few times in the stream, the fun of a game like this or Dark Souls is discovering stuff yourself. They'll pick up enough of how things work just by watching you, but save some surprises for if/when they play for themselves. Like, it would've sucked if somebody had explained to you what the golden idol trap is in the temple before you went in there to grab it and died, right?

Just a suggestion for the future. I know it's tough trying to come up with stuff to talk about when you're by yourself, so narrating what you're doing is easy, but yeah. Just a suggestion.

Best thing about this series? People on my list are back to doing dailies, woo.

Really enjoying these vids. I recently got into Spelunky from that Polygon essay too. It's fun to learn all the quirks along with you Patrick!

I really wish this spam would stop. Fact is... Rush64.com is hosted in Wilmington, Delaware, United States at 192.31.186.43 and expires on 2014-05-22. There will probably be another to pop up afterwards... The Internets is getting to be really exhausting to navigate "around". But....I will always love The Giant Bomb!

I find this game insanely re-watchable and I didn't expect to. Keep it coming.

Patrick is genuinely great at this game. That Anubis maneuver!

Keep posting these every day and I'll keep watching these every day.

PSN version has the alternate skins. Saving a pug makes is better.

For the sake of varying opinions, I think what you're doing is perfectly fine. As an avid Spelunky fan myself, I couldn't care less if you're explaining things I already know. I'm just as content watching the gameplay :)

What a great feature Patrick! It's fun to watch Spelunky being played in a communal way. Please keep this up

Goddamnit Patrick. Stop making me want to buy things. I already feel bad for not buying The Swapper.

Great series.

Posted by marbleCmoney

Man, these are all gold so far. Keep it up, Patrick.

Posted by namesonkel

I really don't like Patrick's player character.

Edited by Hew7

That death at the end, twas' rather funny.

Posted by Dan_CiTi

Spelunky is crack.

Posted by Ghostiet

Can you telefrag the shopkeeper without a penalty in this version? I keep thinking of that whenever I see Patrick take the teleporter.

Edited by cloudymusic

Being in the Temple with no bombs is the sort of thing I have nightmares about.

Edited by Robopengy

This is a great feature. If this has the same effect as Daily DOTA, I'll be sinking 300 hours into Spelunky! :D

Edited by sirkibble2

I need to play this game. Why haven't I played this game? *Looks at wallet* Mm. That's why. One day...

Same here. I don't really mind it myself; it's just more that when he mentioned that half the fun in Spelunky is discovering stuff for yourself, I started thinking about how much that could take away from the experience of people unfamiliar with the game. Of course, those people shouldn't be watching this, but sometimes people need a push to get a game for themselves.
