See, I'm on the fence about this. I'm super sick of recent games using "pixel art." It's not retro anymore. It's trendy. If the art is good, it's basically just down-res'ed regular art. Otherwise it is exactly what you said. However, I know that if -I- wanted to make a game, I'm absolute crap at art, and that would be a very easy way for me to make the best of what I want to do whilst masking where my talents are lacking.

I don't begrudge anyone for using low res pixel art or top-down 2d style. Nowadays I see it less as an attempted homage to retro gaming or appeal to nostalgia and more as a means for people who may not be natural artists or just resource limited to create a consistent style on a budget. It's not necessarily in the power of every indie dev with a good idea to find a visual artist who can create art assets to the scale that would be needed for a fully 3D or a more detailed 2D style like Limbo or even Terraria.

A game where you hire Grizzly Bearington, Chimpan Z, and Kairobot to run around a campsite disemboweling sexy teens. I'd play the shit out of that game.

This game looks cool. Reading the title, though, I can't help but imagine (and want) a "Survival Horror Story" in line with the Game Dev Story archetype. What would that even be!?

Intrigued. The dialogue is a bit simple and seems translated. But done well, that's as much a retro style choice as pixel art is. Hopefully it will improve as the game gets developed.

In an ocean of "old school" pixel art titles this one seems like it might actually do it right, I'm cautiously optimistic for this one!
