So this is an XBLA game and XCOM is still that FPS based in the 60s?

I liked the art style of that one shown a couple of years ago.

The XCOM FPS is another game (by the Bioshock 2 team at 2K), there are two XCOM games coming up.
 
I'm pretty exited for both, though this looks more true to the original XCOM than I would've thought (odd that they said they added cover mechanics to the series though, that's been in there from the first game, along with the destructible environments).

This has me really excited. The earlier trailers which made it look like FPS were a horrible decision. Those completely soured me to the project but this has swung my opinion around 180! It looks to play more like Valkyria Chronicles than anything else modern I can relate it to. Now, is this coming to the PC, too? I find these types of games (like DAO) work best on that platform, but on the other hand, I never had a problem with VC, so I'm not sure which platform I'll pick this up on.

It's not about helping "us retards" out. The game is working the same way as before, they just put those time units under the hood so you can focus on the actual tactics and decision making. But you're still choosing between moving far and then not having enough "time" to shoot, or being more conservative with your actions and not over extending yourself.

But it seems that people just hear "simplified" and get offended because they're so cool and they can count to like a million, BACKWARDS.

I'm an engineer, I get a boner from numbers as much as the next guy, but It's a good thing that games stop showing those numbers. Take health for example, most games nowadays don't show "OK YOUR HEALTH IS 45" cus 45 makes no sense as a health value. They instead show a health bar, or your character looks kind of fucked up, or the screen starts getting red.

It's the same thing, and its not cus they think players are dumb, its just cus showing those numbers gives no value to the experience.

This game looks so much better, and more fun, than 2K Marin's game. It's going to be REAL interesting to see if this, or XCOM, sells better, and across which platforms. I bet PC and PS3 players (who turned Valkyria Chronicles into a hit) will buy more of this one, but the Xbox Live headset wearing meathead crowd will no doubt embrace the shooter game more.

The point is simplicity and ease, not whether a person is able to count. The developers changed it because they felt it was easier this way. But you are obviously more interested in being an Internet dick and troll, than actually trying to understand the reasoning behind the change.

As someone who missed the original X-COMs (don't hate, I was poor), the combat and light "rpg elements" in this bring to mind Valkyria Chronicles. With a (very) little Sim Tower in the base building.

The point is that they found a way to eliminate the need for all that counting without crippling the tactical aspects of the game. They simplified that which was needlessly complex, and added depth by adding new tactical mechanics such as the cover system. If your only counter-argument is some sort of weird time unit snobbism, well...

This looks fantastic. If we can have Alpha Centauri II next, that would be perfect. I do wonder how fast the novelty value of the cinematic camera wears off, though. Hopefully it won't be all cinematic action all the time.

Gotta admit, this looks awesome. I was a bit skeptical about it (not that I didn't think Firaxis couldn't make a good XCOM game) but now I'm sold.

Only bad thing - seeing them use a controller made me a bit sad :( but hey, easy to control is ok also right?
