Terraria's Looking Pretty Good on Consoles So Far

I really liked Terraria, glad to see that it's looking good for the consoles as well.

Psh, console versions won't be able to download Silent Hill remakes, though.

Missing out, really. :)

Oh, uh, I mean PEESEE MUSTARD REESE. Yeah there we go.

Wait, what?

There's actually a cursor? So they kinda too thought that there's not really a way to play Terraria anywhere close to the PC game without a free moving cursor I suppose.

But despite it being no question that controls would be inferior no matter what, damn, that has to be a hassle to move the cursor via sticks o,,o

I've spent over 100 hours playing Terraria on PC. I think history will repeat itself when the console version comes out.

I don't think this will sell as well as Minecraft did on consoles. Something tells me that anyone who wanted to play this while it was a PC exclusive, played it, what with all the Steam sales and such, and I can't imagine people saying "I wish this was coming to consoles".

Edit: Looking at some peoples comments on here, I could be wrong.

@NaDannMaGoGo: It's a reasonable compromise though, I mean how else would you be able to fine tune which block you want to place/mine.

It is kind of jarring seeing cursors on console games, though. Kinda like playing an RTS on a console.

Oh god, manipulating a tiny cursor with an analog stick, to select tiny tiny tiny pixel sized blocks looks SUPER unapealing. I'll stick with the PC version.

Yeah as I said, compromises have to be made in this case. Terraria is just obviously more suited to real mouse controls. I mean, in fact many games are. After all you just can't get the same quick and precise movement from anything else really. And I don't mean this in a PC-elitists way, it's just how it is.

I'd recommend those who play it on Console try it out on PC too if possible.

Either way, the game is very much so worth it's value and the great thing for new adapters of this game is, that they get it in its full beauty, while those who were there at the start got a still somewhat great but in comparison much more limited game, that then got a bunch of great upgrades. While that is great it's still just so much more fun to play a great game in its entire beauty immediately.

It has...a cursor....

I don't know how you would do it otherwise, though. Terraria is one of those games that you really, really should play on a PC. It's not exactly Metro 2033 in terms of system reqs.

But this game will make bank and the people playing it probably will still enjoy it. So I guess we all learned a valuable lesson about the magic of sharing.

Is it still needed at this point to keep pointing out how it's a Minecraft-like game at all? We all know what Terraria is, and there's tons of these kinds of games now.

I could never get into it. I guess I just enjoyed the sandbox building aspect of Minecraft more than the combat and loot part of Terraria.

Yep looks exactly like the wrong way to do this. Not sure what the right way is but whatever... This seems very clunky. Also I'm so sick of hearing that it's Minecraft-like, after the initial resource gathering, it's way more like a Metroidvania game with some digging to unearth new weapons.

That is a pretty cool trailer, but if this is meant for consoles, why is there a cursor on at all times? :/

I was hoping it would control kind of like a dual joystick shooter, use the right stick to choose a direction and then use the triggers to set how far out the pointer to be

I wouldn't quite say that, this trailer says that 1.6 million copies have already been sold. Terraria used to be pretty consistently at the top of the Steam top games charts.

Have they said if the new content would also be on PC? I'd gladly buy new content but that would suck if it was only for the console versions. (which I won't be able to play)

*sigh*

I'm just gonna go on a limb and say this "new content" will never come to PC. With everything that's been compounding my feelings about Terraria lately, I feel this is the most likely scenario.

Also... seriously? They ignore Team Diggle's offer and instead gave the porting reins to a shovelware company? Hell with this.

Jeff has definitely talked about it a lot on the bombcasts, though as far as site coverage goes... I don't think there's been any.

Digging looks like it'll be horrible tedious if you just have to cursor over each individual block at a time. Like it worked fine with a mouse just because of how quickly and precise you were able to be with that but with like a grid system on a controller that seems so much worse. :(

This was the same logic people used for Dark Souls.

Didn't work there. Mouse shouldn't emulate an analog stick, and an analog stick shouldn't emulate a cursor.
