The Best PS1 Final Fantasy Game Headed to Steam

Klepeck nailed it, if only because this is the only Final Fantasy game I have any kind of nostalgia for whatsoever. Let's go to the moon again for no discernable story-related reason, shall we?

Tactics, 7 and 9 were all better than 8. Lets not forget that FF Anthology was also on PS1 and had FF 6 on it, which is better than any of the PS1 Final Fantasies.

FF7 on Steam was a broken mess last time I tried to play it. I will have to see if that has been fixed, before I look at this.

For the most part it is. 7 was a port using the same assets as the original, but a remade exe file to support higher resolutions, fix bugs like armor not giving magic resist etc. It's not like they have "HD versions" of the assets :/

This is probably similar (hopefully they don't have midi music the first time around) but has a remake of the Japanese exclusive Pocketstation game. That's a nice bonus.

So... no Final Fantasy game is on Steam then?

8 is definitely the best of the PS1 FF's! Second only to FF6.

My memories of Final Fantasy games are tied up inextricably with memories of my life. Final Fantasy VIII was a weird time for me. I was 13 years old and there was some stuff going on with my family, and I connected with it in a weird way. There's locations in the game and music cues that hit me with actual painful nostalgia. The whole Squall/Laguna relationship resonates in an odd way too. I still love a lot of the ideas in it, though I never finished it because that final boss was ludicrously un-fun.

FFIX however is by far my favourite Final Fantasy, PS1 or otherwise. It was triumphant.

Anyway, I know. I was just feeding the flame Patrick started. I really don't have any feelings towards the series besides I played most of X and thought it was decent and tried to play 7 years after it was released and thought it felt extremely outdated (I'm not adverse to old games, I just felt FF7 might not have aged all that well)
