WHY AM I NOT SURPRISED.

After the diversity of character races and backgrounds in FF7, I was sorry to see FF8's cast of six bland white kids. I understand that he's trolling us to an extent, but I'm a little disappointed that Patrick would call this the best RPG on PS1. Bummer.

I figure I should drop in here and let everyone know that Final Fantasy Tactics is currently the best FF game. It's also one of the best games ever made. That is all.

Random encounter RPGs are tough to go back to. I don't even know if I would've picked up my favourite, FF6, even if they did re-release it.

All of the main Final Fantasy games are great. I won't pick favorites because I like them all.

Out of all of the Fantasies, VIII is definitely not the best. The draw system is a pain in the ass. VI, VII and IX were all way better, and, in my opinion, all equally as good as each other. Not to knock VIII mind, it's still pretty good, just not as enjoyable as the others.

It's always been IX then VIII then VII in my opinion. Maybe even Tactics before VII and if you factor in the SNES era then VII doesn't even make in in my top five...IV and VI are great....Though Barrett is a true playa.

I love that one of the biggest bits of praise for this port is "They added a thing that gives you full supplies of magic so you can skip a lot of the gameplay!"

If you're admitting that the game is markedly improved by selecting what is practically a cheat-code so you can circumvent one of the crucial mechanics of the game, you are maybe admitting that major mechanic sucks and is stupid.

Personally I didn't mind FFVIII, Laguna was a pretty cool main character (that other guy not so much). But it's definitely a low point in the series compared to VI or IX. Or even VII.

What, FF IX is coming to steam?

FFIX is the one of the three PS1 games they never ported to PC, it will be interesting to see if that happens now

The extra features they mention in the trailer is a Save File editor like they included with VII and Chocobo World, which was also released with the previous PC version of VIII but is now apparently launch-able from inside the game instead of being a separate app.

Personally I like IX better... or Tactics, but maybe that's exempt.

Well, the only Final Fantasy I've ever played was 4, and I never finished it because the darn Moon section was too hard. My roommates sing the praises of Tactics plenty, and my one roommate is a really big fan of IX. So, opinions, I guess.

As someone who's never played any of the mainline Final Fantasy games, I posit that Type-0 is the best polygonal Final Fantasy of them all!

That last castle thingy in VIII where you have earn back menu options like ITEM, MAGIC, etc. killed the game for me. Seriously, I have to EARN back the right to use ITEMS because a witch stole it? That game was good, but FILLED with padding.

Story wise VII is filled with holes for sure, even presentation wise it's hit and miss, but the actual game was better that VIII. Just the variety, the discovery and the actual combat were more fun. All IMHO of course.

IX best 3D FF!
