This trailer actually made me less interested in the game. So much stuff I don't like getting showed, all though fast travel sounds great.

Looks alot like 2 with a bunch of improvements and a handfull of new stuff sprinkled ontop of it. That alone tells me this game will be good.(But only if they include a flyable helicopter for getting around in, or a least a better fast travel system, because getting around in 2...ugh.)

As I'm playing through 2 slowly and enjoying every minute of it for the second time right now, I gotta say this looks like boring and pointless violence and spectacle. Far Cry 2 is a masterpiece with explosions and fire as icing on a nihilistic, unsettling cake. This looks adolescent and uninteresting. I demand better.

This is very specific, but it always rubs me the wrong way when marketing teams feel the need to emphasize an evil character doing something evil. Yes, we know the guy is insane, you've made sure of that. Why should we be shocked that he would kill a person in cold blood? Your editing budget is best spent making flashy cuts elsewhere.

@teh_destroyer: Nope. Videogames have done open world insanity. They've done tits and ass. That this is more colorful and has implications of dissociate identity disorder doesn't make it look good. Seriously, Far Cry 2 is a goddamn masterpiece.

I'm sure this game will be fun, but the way the trailers are put together and marketed is classes/distasteful. Instead of communicating sense of danger or intriguing story, these trailers are just screaming "HEY BRO, DO YOU LIKE PLAYING DOCTOR ON YOURSELF, SHOOTING TONS OF DUDES (or animals), AND DOWNING ANY DRUG YOU CAN FIND ON THIS FUCKED UP ISLAND?! WELL BOOM BOOM BOOM!" Again, the game had me in the beginning with it's initial (and interesting) trailer, but these recent trailers leave a bad taste in my mouth.

If they fixed the flaws of Far Cry 2 this could be a fantastic FPS sandbox.

If I can just roam around hunting tigers with a bow I'll be very happy. Its funny, actual hunting games bore the shit out of me but any time a freeroam FPS does it I get all tingly inside.

Too bad Borderlands 2 doesnt have a bow.

I was originally a lot more excited for the game, it may be the hype around the game now, or it could be the amount of non-attractive trailers they're showing. Oh well, fortunately, I'll still get to play it. I think what wore me down already was early on after they showed Vaas, and how every sentence he spoke seemed like there was a forced "fuck".

Agreed. I was hoping for a more story-driven experience, but this trailer makes it sound like run-of-the-mill open world. "Make deliveries to earn money to buy guns!" Oh wow, I've never done that before.

Aside the pitiful ultra-sensitive bitches that complain and shit their pants over trailers and marketing ads, if this game has a smarter stealth system, an improved enemy AI and more outlandish/exotic weapons than Far Cry 2, while keeping that awesome combination of unique atmosphere, sound, the day and night cycle and weather variety, plus the multiple approaches to each mission, then I'm more than satisfied.

What gets my 'log loaded' the most are the animals. Far Cry 2 felts somewhat sparse and empty, and no amount of randomly joy-riding mercs could make up for it. There were donkeys and stuff, sure, but I'll gladly trade up for some bears, leopards and alligators.

Far Cry 2 was my single-player MMO game. While I'd enjoy that again, the introduction of Voss makes me want a much more focused, narrated story. All of those obviously-scripted psychotic effects looks so damn cool that it'd be a shame if there was only one mission with them.

I just really hated the fact that the enemies were so goddamn hard to gun down in the game, I might have been doing something wrong, I don't know. But the fact that enemies re-spawned right after you cleared a camp was insane.

Indeed. They just need to add better voice acting and an involving story plus not have every checkpoint and base you clear out be re-populated as soon as you leave. I don't mind if the they come back eventually but it grated that I could kill everyone in a base, then drive round the corner, turn around and they would all be back.

I have given up on trailers which actually sell me on games because all they do is show the flashiest, most silly parts of the game, never any of the subtlelties which get you gripped.

As you say the best thing about FC2 was the open-ended way you had to approach a mission, both in style of gameplay and the size of terrain you had at your disposal. If they keep this as the core and then sort out the limitations of FC2, I think this could be very good.

Eh, I've been playing through on hardened and the bullet damage isn't annoying me. Sniper rifle is my friend. Far as I can tell, the camps respawn when you sleep at a safe house, which makes some world sense.

The game is so much about chaos and powerlessness that any kind of permanent elimination of guard posts would be counter to its message, I think. Safe houses are safe forever, though. What you gain is knowledge of what that guard post contains, which allows you to make smart decisions about whether to attack it again.

...And don't forget that atmosphere and sound. Despite its few flaws, Far Cry 2 was one of the best and most underrated games this generation and also ahead of its time - when everybody was busy churning military shooters and space marines, this game came out of nowhere with its authenticity and unique style. Most videogame "journalists" were already (willingly, paid to or both) aboard the Call of Duty/ Halo/ Gears of War hype train to give it any attention.

But how can you expect any Pink Floyd or BB King to appear, when you're expecting everything to sound like Lady Gaga?
