Alex losing it and becoming apocalyptic at the end made me crack up.

Maybe he doesn't know it yet but Dave is mildly colorblind. He can't tell the difference between yellow and green most of the time it seems.

Also, I think they need to be very specific. For example, pick up the green briefcase from the middle Tokyo shelf.

I think what's happening is that every time you say "get the briefcase" after one has already been put on the conveyor belt, the robot has defined that particular case as "the briefcase" and so always turns back towards the conveyor belt and can't reach "the briefcase" because it's too far.

That baggage claim should hire Jimmy. He's really good at picking up the right item.

Please, michiduta. I don't understand.

This game has you indirectly controlling robots who do the actual things, and the things they do are mundane. A more efficient way of doing things would be to take care of the mundane things yourself. How is the premise of indirect control via voice that doesn't work (it was not fucking better this time) good? Let's pretend for a moment it did work, how is indirectly controlling a robot to do mundane things a good premise?

I agree. Sure, an island full of robots sound neat, but if the voice commands worked perfectly, would the game be fun? I don't think so.

This game is like a long slow train wreck. I love it. You guys are the perfect foils for Bot Colony. I say you dont stop until you have played the whole thing....just to spite the developers. Show them you wont be deterred by their attempts to drive the human race insane.

Definitely enjoying GiantbombEast!

I never can grasp the idea of being colorblind. Do these people see world as other does ? Or they just cant name the colors

They do not see the world the same way those with normal vision do. A lot of colors we would describe as distinctly different appear very similar to them.

I find it really unfortunate that TWO of the most prominent Giant Bomb personalities are colour blind.

For some reason, the fact that the computer recognized "Applebee's" as a term in its system and properly punctuated it cracked me up. I love it!

Posted by cooljammer00

Why did they not think to get more specific once they realized their general instructions were being ignored? "Get the briefcase" didn't work, but would "get the green briefcase from the bottom taipei shelf" work?

Posted by PsychoPenguin

@cooljammer00: Because the command that they were taught at the beginning was to say "get the briefcase" and click on a briefcase. This worked for them and they have no idea what other commands will work.

People will rely on what worked previously, even in different situations, over trying new things.

It's more common than you think it would be, especially in men. A lot of the genes that make a person colour-blind are X-linked, meaning that a male (who is XY), does not have a functioning copy on a different X-chromosome. Females can get X-linked diseases, but this is quite rare, as females have XX, and one of those X chromosomes becomes inactivated in early development. I don't know why I wrote all this out.

Great Quick Look. The only thing missing is a camera view of Vinny and Alex to show the look of horrible frustration while they're playing this game.

This Unfinished felt a bit unfair in it's coverage of this game.

First, I think they should have stopped using the voice commands halfway through. It isn't the game's fault if the voice recognition is horrendous. It's using the Microsoft built in voice recognition as far as I can tell. I get it, it's funny to have it not work properly but after a while, I just wanted to see what the game was capable of when the commands were typed in properly. It wasn't a good representation of Bot Colony's abilities or shortcomings at all and so much time was wasted repeating commands.

Also, during the green briefcase part, they should have recognized that the robot was bugged and reminded people that it was Early Access (just like they would have done for that terrible Starforge game for example).

I found Bot Colony potentially interesting, but could not get a solid impression from this video feature since they were not actually trying to find solutions to problems, instead they tried the same thing over and over again.

Lastly, this felt more like a Quick Look rather than Unfinished. Towards the end, Alex writes the game off as bad instead of stating that it does not look like a good game in it's current state. It's sad when a site like PC Gamer does a better job of handling Early Access games coverage.

I love Giantbomb, and I hope that this is not an indication of the quality that will come out of Giantbomb East in the future.

You guys are better than this.

This is the most absolutely awful overall game I've seen in a long time. It does make for great GB content though so I guess it's existence is somewhat justified.

The voice recognition is one of the game's main selling points. It is only fair to show it off.

And no, it isn't using Microsoft Speech Recognizer. The developers built their own tech for this purpose.

Typed in properly? Oftentimes the robots would refuse to understand basic commands. You could see it during the baggage claim portion. The robot was unable to understand "release" or "drop" when the guys wanted to get the briefcase onto the conveyor belt. So much for "unscripted conversation", as the devs have put it.

This is like the good old text adventure games with an interpreter that only ever understood very specific commands when trying to interact with their game worlds.

Edited by Rich666

If you look @ 13:06 the game interprets his voice input as "asked me for a soggy"... that's just amazing... Best quick look / unfinished in quite some time

You guys are better than this.

You must be a BotColony alt.

- This game is built and advertised as voice control as its gimmick. Typing everything would be one dull experience, and whatever voice recognition the game developers choose to use is indeed their fault. If they can't license better tech, voice should be removed.

- It was an excellent showcase of the game's shortcomings. Communicating nothing to the player, not responding to basic English commands that should work, falling short of its "scriptless speech interaction promises, to name a few.

- Who's to say the robot was bugged? What if, as others have said, it is behaving the way it is after multiple checkpoint resets because that's the way it was purposefully programmed? If the robot was designed to think the last briefcase used is now "the briefcase", it's not a bug. There is also a difference between this title and Starforge. Starforge, for the most part, works.

- This game isn't ready for players. Even if it is early access, it's been released broken, and its main selling point sucks. It is bad.

- I asked this question from another poster, maybe you can help me. What about this game is interesting? If you take out the voice controls, you have a boring, pre-Alpha Sims. You indirectly control robots that don't listen to you to try and get them to do mundane tasks. Even if the game did work, and understood simple English, what is interesting about it?

I think Vinny was trying to play the game the way "it was meant to be played". If you make people do the voice thing first, then it's a voice game. And even when they did type, the game still refused to understand them some times.

Vinny, of all people, gives games fair shakes.

I don't care if this game is Alpha, Beta, or version 1.0, the base game appears awful. The base idea of what this game will be, appears to be awful. Every other Unfinished has involved criticism/praise from the GB crew.

If a game is released to the public, it is completely fair game to be judged. This thing should not have been released.

Also, the voice recognition is about the only interesting thing in this game, yet it is completely fucked. If the one clever mechanic in your game is broken, what does that say about your game?
