GBWest was hard to watch, they seemed to have one glory-hunter and two people just meandering around the pitch, whereas GBeast had a defender, a midfielder, and a forward. I kinda hope this is the last of the Rocket League stuff with the teams as is, as both Dan and Jeff seemed to be pretty negative performers for very different reasons.

This game really needs a spectator mode so we can see the Beast guys playing.

Dan is great at controlling his car but is terrible at this game. Look at how many pointless flying kicks he took in the middle of nowhere. He's just rushing at the ball and hitting it aimlessly giving GBeast a lot of good setups.

Everyone is piling on Dan but Jeff was awful for the second hour of the match. He just kept missing the ball.

But this is all just for fun, right guys?

Oh also @brad, re: your query as to whether they disabled chat, I think it's just a bug. Whenever I resume playing Rocket League after having my PS4 in rest mode, none of the chat stuff works. I have to quit the game and start it back up for any of that to work again.

Well, Jeff is sick and I find missing the ball to be a lesser failure then failing to play as a team. And it is all in good fan. I mean all of them are still better then I will ever be at this game.

Ball cam users are the true peasants. You use a quick ball cam tap to locate the ball and its current trajectory, then you use the normal camera so that your controls don't freak the fuck out if the ball moves closely to you, ball cam users are notoriously total garbage when the ball gets too close to them.

Ball cam is there for quick ball location and certain aerial shots that require you to track the ball continuously from across the field to adjust your boosting.

They really need 1 person to stay defense the entire game. No one was really playing defense but only trying to get back everytime the ball was fielded.

Hoping next bout is GBWest rightfully reclaiming their crown.

Seriously, teams shouldn't be able to hear the other team unless the game is over.

I could seriously write a thesis on why ball-cam is objectively better. It's just as easy if not better for lining up shots/hits once you get used to it (Jeff wasn't a particularly good example of this just because he hasn't put in the time), and it's advantage for field/team awareness is not even up for fucking debate, and that awareness is just as important as execution when you are playing on a team. There were a number of goals that Dan could have been in position to save if he hadn't boosted back to get on D and then totally lost track of the ball because it was getting pushed around off screen completely out of his view. On a lot of his side-on shots to the goal you can't see where the defending cars are either, making it a total guess on where you should be trying to place your shot.

Neither camera is good for when the ball is high in the air above you, so the argument there is not to degenerate either cam style but to recognize that you shouldn't be sitting underneath the ball waiting for it to drop, you should be circling back around to get a better angle, backing up to go for the aerial, or falling back on D to have a better touch on it once the other team pushes it forward.

The only camera related thing I'll comment on is adjusting the fov, stiffness, etc. You can definitely get some better settings than default so if you care about "optimal play" or whatever go mess with them.

Max camera FOV and distance helps a lot. :)

Ball Cam makes it easier for this to be watchable and readable as a spectator.

I always find it so funny how quiet Dan gets when he is losing in any multiplayer type game. Maybe he was right when he said something about it being more enjoyable when he gets his comeuppance after being a heel.

Great video though, glad to see another one of those, hope Jeff is feeling better. Will always be rooting for whatever team Vinny is on.

@marblez3: I think it's less about Jeff knowing he was joking and more about him not playing along because it's not his schtick. You can always ask him on his tumblr or since your a premium member ask him for jar time. ( he said he has a lack of questions for jar time)

I love Dan and I enjoy him playing the heel. I wouldn't want anyone else to be a heel. I mean Dan has EXTENSIVE experience pretending to be an asshole when he is a really nice intelligent empathetic person. If everyone was the heel this would be way more boring for me. My favorite type personality comes from Jeff and Vinny and I would be a little depressed if they just took Dan's personality.

For the amount of shit people give Dan for gloating when he's winning, he's not a sore loser at all. He rarely gives excuses and doesn't really whine.

He's the kind of competitive person who really likes winning at something, but doesn't seem to mind losing all that much. The other side of the spectrum are the people who absolutely hate losing so they often turn into a sore loser, while winning is more of a relief because it meant they didn't lose (which means they're often not gloating when winning). I'm that last kind of competitive person, and it's why I don't really play multiplayer games all that much anymore. I just can't stand to lose at those games, but when I'm winning I'm more relieved than anything else. It makes me a pain in the ass when I'm playing competitive games with friends because I'm just constantly whining if I'm losing, and it's not really fun for me because all I get out of it is stress.

East simply had the better teamwork. Well done!

I don't understand how you can get angry and say "Man I had the shot!" if you don't call it before hand. You'd think Brad would know teamwork from DOTA. West ran at the ball like toddlers while East covered for each other. Entertaining stuff nonetheless!

To clarify my quip about "ball-cam rookies", it's not that they're using ball-cam at all. I use ball-cam very frequently. It's about toggling it based on context, and Jeff & Brad seemed to have it on 100% of the time. For example, this causes Jeff to whiff a lot especially when trying to intercept a moving ball. Jeff also never has enough rocket fuel because ball-cam prevents him from running over the powerup pads deliberately as he traverses the field. (I don't mean to pick on Jeff, but the video was fixated on his car for the 2nd half.)

Ball-cam is great for situational awareness regarding the ball, and for certain kinds of shots & interceptions. But if you never toggle the camera, then you'll lack adaptability as a player. The toggle is mapped to the controller for a reason.

The BEAST showed some great teamwork. I don't think Jeff, Dan and Brad were talking to each other as much during the matches. Austin's so funny "WHY AM I SHOUTING!" lol.

A couple of tips for all you would be all stars out there:

You can drive just as fast backwards as forwards; sometimes it's better to just keep it in reverse

You can't use boost backwards but you can do flips to gain speed just like going forwards

It takes about two flips to reach top speed; you'll know when you hit top speed by the small force wave and your boost turning purple. Let off on your boost because you cant go any faster once hitting top speed

Sometimes when you fly into the goal, instead of turning around in it, it's better to just keep driving and launch out of it and barrel roll so you land on your tires

I moved free look to ball cam (originally mapped to the triangle button) to L1 so I could toggle it while boosting

Playing without ball cam is like playing with inverted controls, YOU ARE INSANE. :p

I feel it's a legit tactic to bump eachother out of the way. Like bumping Vinny out of position before the ball goes center.

Also; Dan is not a teamplayer at all, just rushing for the ball all the time. :)

That's why it's good to tap it, not play in it constantly. It's a good awareness button, but awful for actually playing the game.

If you look at some of the best players (Kronovi, Gibbs etc.) you'll see that they use ball cam 99% of the time. They only switch to pickup boosts or if the ball is very high up and they are under it.

Ball cam = essential.

Am I the only one who saw a resemblance to a certain FGC player in Jeff's expression?
