I still don't quite understand what they are going to do with the Kinect on this. It seems silly to me to keep that franchise name then try to take away what kept the original so immersive. I'm still praying that the Kinect part will only be basic things like head tracking and voice commands, while the actual game is a new controller.

Also: what the hell is with this sudden switch to 2020 World War II? I hope they at least get a little into the formation of the Hai Shi Dao and the PRF.

I'm a big fan of From Software and the idea of the original Steel Battalion, despite never having played it, but the game just doesn't look terribly appealing to me, and a lot of it has to do with the bizarre choice of setting. Everything about the setup for the story seems immensely implausible. Microbes ate our computers, so suddenly it's WW2 with walking tanks? What?

I guess I'll need to see more and get a better grasp of what they're aiming for. As it stands right now, though, it's not making me want to pick up a Kinect for it. And apparently I'm in the minority by not being impressed by the trailer. Maybe I'm just a gigantic stick in the mud.

Ummmm....

What?

No. Seriously. What?

Do I get to use Kinect to slap that guy in the face?

Why is this neo-WWII?

Could they have made that viewing window any smaller?

What?

I hope they license the fruit ninja tech for the face slapping minigame.

I like that landing. I reminds me of a scene in one of the VOTOMS OVAs.

Every soldier fights two wars...

One against the enemy and the other against the shitty controls.

Other than some pretty poor visuals and animations, I'm actually more interested in this game than I was before... the music rocked to make up for it at least

@Driadon: You end up starting the engine, high-fiveing dudes etc with the kinect. And controllers for everything else, whoich feels sort of like a cheap cop-out.

Also, according to vg247 the name of the dude you're playing is "Lt. Powers". I do hope his first name is Max. And also, that sounds horrible.

It's so sad seeing this go from that beast of a controller to a Kinect title. What a shame.

If they can sell those shitty Guitar Hero peripherals for $100+ they can put out another Steel Batallion controller, at least that thing felt like it was put together with a degree of care.

Trenched says hi. Also, I have a feeling this game will be mediocre.

and you rejects posting snide comments referring to Trenched need to shut the fuck up, what does this have to do with Trenched? Are you insinuating Trenched is the first mech game or something? Yeah the mechs in this trailer look a little like the ones in Trenched but guess what? Some of them looked like they came directly from Metal Gear Solid, 4 specifically. You're not funny, grow up.

I'm done here. I know you'll have nothing of worth to say back, you made that pretty evident already with your mindless fanboyism.

@DirtyOldBum: It's an instrumental version of Ice Cream Van by Glasvegas.

Kind of reminds me of Ring of Red which had a psudo-WWII setting with mechs, too.  TRAILER.  This game could be okay but there are too many unknowns about it, so I'm going to wait and see what's what when it comes out.

To all you morons saying that this game looks like Trenched: this game was actually announced and has been in development for much longer than Trenched was. This game made it's debut over a year ago when they first unveiled Kinect.

@Ygg @xyzygy:

Hey, it's Trenched 2: Steel Battalion: Vlad's Revenge, but this time he's got Trenches of his own and also wiped out all of the world's computers with silicon eating things. From Software and Double Fine worked together to bring you this Trenched sequel.

But in all seriousness, calm down a little. I'm perty sure that most of the people who were commenting on the similarities of Trenched and this know that there have been many mech games prior. Also, it's been a while since anything for this game has been posted on the site as opposed to Trenched which has received a good deal of attention from the site. And the looks of both games are pretty similar so of course both of them are going to compared, so "snide" comments are to be expected.

This is great for the kinect. Getting some of the old mechwarrior fans in on the kinect action. They'll probably sell upwards of ten units with this thing. I think kinect finally got its system-mover.

what really is great about this game is that they dont JUST reference and ambiguous 'hostile superpower.' they make it even dumber by mixing in some 'UN is evil' New World Order bullshit.  i wont be surprised if half way through the game your CO pulls you aside before the mission and says "so just to be clear, we think that globalization and the UN are eroding the USA's national sovereignty"
