I love the first Mirrors Edge. Can't wait for the prequel.

Someone once said that Mirror's Edge is what the Matrix games should have been. I hope there's good mod support.

I hope there's multiplayer/co-op, an open world with missions, alliances, etc.

Also, I hope they give us a real taste of the soundtrack soon.

This looks great. It also looks a lot like Mirror's Edge 1 with less gun-wielding. All I ever wanted.

Hate to single you out but you never had to pick up a weapon in Mirror's Edge.

I hope they streamlined the controls, otherwise this looks super hard. Also how do you know what to jump on if it's not red????????? :-o

This is a PREQUEL?! Ugh, I freaking hate prequels!

Other than that, the gameplay looks EXACTLY the same, just the visuals are updated. The first Mirror's Edge was an ok game, but a lot of the gameplay kind of devolved into trying to figure out where the hell to go, and there are even a few times where it almost feels like trial and error. There's only so much they can do to alleviate this considering the game's supposed to feel fast, but I do hope they think of something to make sure the pace stays fast even when you're uncertain of where to go.

That all being said, PLEASE keep 'Still Alive' as the game's theme song, or at least keep the melody of the song for the game's menu and theme. That song is seriously the only reason I even finished the first game - I liked it that much.

I've seen people complaining that they made Faith look less Asian. I don't see it.

She looks very different than she does in the first game. In this one she looks a lot more Americanized, if I had to explain it. If you look at her pictures from the first game and this one side by side it's much easier to see.

The thing I'm most interested in with this game is part of it you can't see in the trailer: the controls. I hope they haven't just gone with the modern approach of having a "parkour" button that you hold.

@franticrain: Might want to take a relook at Faith from Mirror's Edge 1 and compare the faces. They look like two completely different people.

Perhaps, but apart from the shot that serves as the video's thumbnail, she certainly still looks like someone of Asian descent. The game has a very different art style from its predecessor so Faith's changed appearance should be expected.

That actually got me pretty pumped.

What's the verdict on playing the first game? I know it was met with mixed reviews but has a strong core group of fans. Is it really as frustrating as people say it is? This one seems to give you more variety in approach than what I've seen of the first.

I played it late last year. Basically, if you have a problem with spatial awareness in first person shooters, you're going to have a major problem playing this game. If you're one of those people that forgets about an enemy or an obstacle the moment it leaves your field of view, you are not going to be able to play Mirror's Edge well because you can't see where your feet are unless you're looking straight down. I didn't have a problem with this at all, but my spatial awareness is exceptionally good (side note: It's really quite annoying when people assume that the platforming in this game is problematic because they can't keep in mind what's where relative to Faith's position when they can't see it).

That said, Mirror's Edge has other problems. I don't feel like its level design is very friendly to its gameplay and mechanics. Much of its challenge comes from having you slow down and figure out where to go next instead of funneling you onward, making the game feel less like a speedy parkour-fest and more like you just stop and ask yourself "what now?". DICE also didn't seem too confident in their ability to make the game more interesting and exciting by using the parkour mechanics, so the more of the game you play, the more guns you'll see. There's an achievement for finishing the game without firing one, but sometimes the game feels like you're supposed to have a gun in your hand.

I really hope this one just has better level design and better gunplay. I do want the gunplay to stay, for the record, there were moments of combat brilliance in the first game. I don't want this to become a shooter but holy shit, combining parkour and Faith's in-air melee moves with better gunplay could have just been the most awesome thing ever. I'd also like to see a better story, the first game's was mostly just all right.

They already confirmed that you won't be using any guns at all. As in you won't even be able to pick them up. Smart decision imo. Still wondering if they'll come up with some sort of story justification for it (like DNA locked guns or something)

The footage I saw of this game at E3 looked scary good... almost like a Go-pro video. Was it prerendered?

Because this looks... not so much.

Yeah, and you can finish most MGS games without ever killing anyone outside of bosses. But it makes these games significantly harder. Something not many people are willing to do. Just ask Drew.

  2. Grunt loudly at everything you do
  3. Shoulder charge every door. Door handles are for wimps.

What's with the panicked breathing at the end? If this was a male lead I'm sure that wouldn't be in there.

Visuals are amazing and first-person parkour is still such an underutilized idea that this looks like a lot of fun and very refreshing.

I vastly prefer Faith's new model. Looks way better then the old one, but that hardly matters since you won't be seeing it much outside of cut scenes anyways.

"Pre-Alpha Gameplay Footage"

Yeah, right?! Either they're concept of Alpha is oddly late in development or this is a scrapped together demo representing nothing that actually exists yet.

Or that part of the game exists but nothing else. You know, like an alpha meaning a product where the gameplay is sort of there, but which is missing content and polish.

Man, those guards are horrible shots. They'd probably miss if you told them to shoot the ground.

People can suck in real life shooting too, even cops. For example, I heard about a shooting between three people about 30' or less between them. Two guys had pistols against a guy with a modern sporting rifle. No one died. But I do see your point. The answer is: video games.

Alpha is when they think they've finished the game and can begin testing for bugs and stability.

Really don't like that roll. It slows down as her legs appear. As her legs appear her body, the core of her mass up, has forward momentum therefore the camera should be quicker coming up, her legs hitting the ground as soon as possible.

What we have now is as her legs appear the roll starts to slow linearly and then she stands up.

Apologies if this is poorly described, its something so very slight but instantly off putting to my brain! I wonder if any others feel there is something not quite natural in the camera movement with regards to the rolling animation.

Pre alpha of course!

I can't put my finger on it, but overall I was kind of disappointed in that.

The voice acting was really awkward. Sounded more like clumsy editing than bad readings, but still. And the visuals went from expectedly amazing to surprisingly bland.

Dunno. I want to be excited for this, and I'm confused why that didn't do it for me.

@verse: I think the actual delivery of said panicked breathing was a little weird, but if I'm an unarmed street thief who thought i was essentially stealing a flash drive from an agriculture company and ended up finding human testing labs and then had to run from dudes with guns and helicopters with guns and jump out a window... male or female, I gonna be pretty dang panicked.

Would you rather her have screamed "Layta Playaaassss!!!" as she jumped out the window?

Never really got into the original, so I'm still on the fence about this one. If it's more of the same, it probably won't be for me.
