I just watched this for the first time about a month ago. I was really impressed not just with how well it held up, but how un-flashy and 'realistic' they made the hot computering action. Sure it was still a movie, but there wasn't a Pac-Man virus or virtual web-o-sphere in sight. I was impressed.

Is this the first positive TANG review ?

Looks interesting, might buy the dvd if ever I see it around. Mathew Broderick sure looks young, youngest I've seen him yet.

WarGames is still the quintessential geek movie, as far as I'm concerned.

And what the hell is that movie Ryan teased at the end?

Edited by bcjohnnie

Great look at still one of the best "computer" movies ever made.  I wish Ryan had spent some time on the final scene at NORAD though.  The juxtaposition of the lightning-fast tic-tac-toe games and the images of the world being blown up over and over again is really amazing to watch.  The amazing tension of everyone in that dark room illuminated by the frenzied flashing on the giant screens is one of my favorite movie scenes ever.

Great episode. I loves me some WarGames. While I was too young to see the movie when it came out, I somehow managed to miss it until about 2000 or so. Since then I've watched it maybe 4 or 5 times. I think that speaks a lot about how well the movie has held up.

Also, Sneakers is great. I didn't see it in the theater, but I rented it when it hit video and I remember watching it two or three times before it had to go back.

EDIT: WarGames is currently available for streaming from Netflix. If you haven't seen it, do so.

I think Mortal Kombat and some of the Resident Evil series came back with "they're not that awful."  But yeah, this is the first genuinely good movie that's been put up for TANG.   I've easily watched it a dozen times or more.

Whoa. Next week is a Joe Don Baker movie.

That's gonna be some deep hurting there, Ryan.

Anyone know what that movie at the end is?

Seriously, Ryan is going to watch Joysticks before The Last Starfighter? Blasphemy!

Posted by Pop

What's the next movie? That chick must be the most annoying person in the world, I wonder if she's the original person that talks like that cause I've heard a lot of parodying of it.

Posted by Death_Burnout

The "set" is looking sick, the lighting is perfect.

Posted by ratzombie
@EHonda:  Next movie is "Joysticks." Ryan's review of that movie should be entertaining.
Posted by Dizzyhippos
@bartok:  Given how bad most video game movies are that is a distinct possibility

It's chronological.

Joysticks - 1983
The Last Starfighter - 1984

Gotta love some WarGames. Already at the 2nd ep of WU TANG and we get a good movie. Maybe games that contain games are better than game movies(except for The Wizard).

I want a .gif of Ryan with his "Boobs" and his...invisible boob squeezing?

Posted by stalefishies

Was the scene at 5:40 actually where they sampled the intro to How to Build a Bomb from, or was that just video editing?

The T 'n A classic Joysticks, an awful piece of shit were boobs and old games are literally the only things of value, although that girl went on to be pretty damn hot in plenty of 80's titty films.

Dabney Coleman, the master.  This means that Cloak & Dagger needs to part of WU TANG.

Like "Tron", "Wargames" is a movie that still holds up to this day. Two great, great movies that had a strong influence on me as a kid.

Kinda convinced me to watch this movie. Great Wu Tang guys, can't wait for the next!

Did I quote that right, its been a while since I listened to Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) :D

That was grand.

I still love Wargames and watch it often.  Netflix has it available for instant streaming so that's great, they also have Wargames 2 which I'm terrified to watch for fear it will just crap all over what made Wargames special.

Similarly, while I have owned the DVD for at least a couple of years now I'm just as terrified to watch Cloak & Dagger.  I haven't seen it since I was a kid and I fear it wasn't nearly as good as I remember it.  Though the DVD double pack in of The Wizard was certainly still just as bad (that is the era-appropriate-Michael-Jackson usage of course) as it ever was so maybe I should give C&D a chance.  Oh that Power Glove, it's so bad.

Yes, you've done a film I've watched! Loved this film and agree wholeheartedly with this review/look at the film.

Can't wait until we get up to the late nineties for Ryan's take on eXistenZ. That one should be a good watch!

Edited by MjHealy

I have never heard of this film before. I have heard about it before on various podcast that involve Jeff and Ryan.

EDIT: Finally! That is where "Turn you key sir" comes from.

Posted by trashcanfun

so are all the scenes of Ryan shot in 24p or am I just crazy?

Posted by Scooper

Ryan's really good at this ish. Great feature.
