You Know, Maybe It Is Time for Another Animal Crossing

I haven't touched one of these games since the GameCube era, but the itch is starting to return. Must...cut...down...trees.

Well this looks like a lot like Animal crossing alright. However I've played the Gamecube, NDS and the Wii version so I think i'll skip this one. They're pretty much the same except they add a new feature here and there. They're still great games but this one looks like the Wii version but with a few new features (swimming, night club)

I'm glad people still have lots of love for this series.

What a boring and pedestrian trailer for a potentially really cool game. ):

It's all fun and games till you're squishing cockroaches in your living room and pulling weeds all day in the year 2099. Never should have moved to Guy City.

Haven't played since the GC days, either, but I am so ready to dive back in. I'll finally be getting a 3DSxl specifically for this game.

Terrible trailer, though, no doubt about it.

I was ridiculously addicted to this game back on the Gamecube. I would have to turn it on once a day and the way it used the console's clock to syncronize real world calendar events was cool. Haven't played one since then and this doesn't look a whole lot different. Tom Nook is a fucking bastard, though, I hope he rots in Hell.

I hope this time I'll have the option of supporting local businesses to drive up competition against the mega-conglomerate Nookington's and lower those bell costs.

My friend told me that a new Animal Crossing was coming out for the 3DS, and I went out and bought a 3DS. That's how excited I am.

You get things for your house. That's pretty much the goal of Animal Crossing right? I haven't been able to be hooked by these games, maybe there's something I'm missing.

I'm in the same boat as you, I've played a little bit of the previous game but after the tutorial I felt kind of lost what to do.

You just chill. I know, shit sounds crazy, but I find something immensely appealing about just doing jack shit in a game.

Really looking forward to this. I skipped over the wii version because I had played the ds one so much, but now it feels like a good time to go back to it.

I have had this pre-sale from Amazon from before release of the system. Looking forward to no longer receiving the email from them each month telling me they are sorry that they are still "trying to get my item"

Sad that without Nintendo Power, where am I going to get my monthly calendar of events.

Oh, and can my eReader cards work with this version? ;)

It looks exactly the same as the Gamecube version except with swimming. I need some sort of innovation before I put down money like that.

The goal is to just be, really. There's a lot of things to do, but nothing you can just set out and get done like you would any other game. Most of the fun is seeing how much stuff is actually in the game, and that requires you to explore a tiny bit of it every day. Check what's in the shop, buy as much as you can afford to eventually upgrade it, take a moment to look for new fossils and wildlife, allow new animals to move into town and chat with them regularly to see how much zany dialogue they wrote for all of the personality types. Hang around for special events, festivals, holidays and whatever other time-sensitive activities they thought of. See how the world changes from summer to autumn to winter and back. Get scared shitless the first time you stumble across a tarantula or scorpion... or get a mild thrill when you spot the giant silhouette of a shark or ocean sunfish in the water for the first time - followed by immense disappointment when you're too on edge to actually catch it and watch it swim away into the ocean never to be seen again...

It's all just content, in a sense. And the game is asking you to set aside just enough time each day to attempt to see it all for however long you decide to stick with it. Once you get over the initial flood of things to do, this should be about ten minutes each day, leaving room for extra stuff like whenever Crazy Redd shows up, and K.K. Slider's concerts on saturday nights. If you want a chance to collect every furniture, catch every fish and bug and be around for all the events and exclusive items, this will amount to ten minutes a day over the course of 365 days. And I love it, because it's something you can do first thing in the morning when waking up to help get you out of bed, or chill out with on the bus for half an hour on the way home from work, or whatever it may be. It's brilliant like that. No other game quite like it.

I guess, in a sense, it does have that in common with Minecraft. It eventually turns into a game that you'll start up just to exist inside it for a little while and enjoy the different, colorful world it presents, in which you can do absolutely nothing and somehow still have fun.
