The Many Editions of Watch Dogs 2
Is it an ICONIC map of San Francisco? Because if not why even waste our time?!
A MAP OF SAN FANCISCO!? Oh boy, sign me up!!
Not really. Then again my interest in Watch_Dogs 2 is pretty low. I bought the first one on sale but never played it. The idea of playing it now seems...kind of absurd? Like It's 2016, can you even still play Watch_Dogs?
But on the special editions stuff....it's just a bunch of cheap tat and a season pass, along with a pointless Deluxe edition that won't matter. If they want to sell overpriced merch they should go sick. I'd rather lots of physical crud than the game itself being carved up and sold piecemeal (though that's being done here too)
Some things truly never change with those kooky folks at Ubisoft. This type of stuff does annoy me but I got out of the habit of buying any sort of premium or collectors editions on the regular years ago. That Fallout 4 Pip-Boy edition was the first one I got in about five or six years.
Depending on how the game turns out and if I'm hurting for a new game, I might pick it up around release or months later. The season pass plus game bundles are the most iffy out of the bunch to me, since it's super hard to gauge if any of the post-game DLC is going to be worth a damn.
But is it a cloth map of San Francisco?
It's made of hemp.
It's nice to know that Ubisoft learned their lesson and are only offering half a dozen different special editions instead of 300,000.
I bought the first one when I bought my PS4 and enjoyed it for the most part. Got some of the DLC on sale a few months back... and really did not enjoy the game..
Hoping the sequel is better
I used to be irked by this, especially when extra 'bonus' game content was spread throughout the different editions. Then, I discovered that, by and large, extra bonus content is terrible and was cut out of the game for good reason. Problem solved!
@sasnake: I think my question is at what point does the money they're spending on manufacture/package of these editions become a burden? I know they're doing just fine from a cash flow perspective but holy shit it's just not smart. I think 3 is the sweet spot right? Standard, limited, collector's - limited has some digital goodies and a map or ideally some actual reason to spend the extra $20-40 and the Collector's has a statue or something that provides tangible value for those that really enjoy the series.
That being said the older I get the less stuff that's included with these really matter. I used to be big on digital stuff like exclusive guns, then wanted a few things to pack my shelves, now I find that if you really want the digital stuff you can pay a dollar and get it, and the physical stuff either looks like shit, is poorly made, or is too embarassing to actually have on a shelf (really? am I going to put a DEADSEC hat or a Marcus figure on my shelf? no.)
Do people really care for all that fluff? I've loved video games ever since I can remember, but I never felt even the slightest urge to own any merchandise or "collector's items".
@gunflame88: I have only ever bought a few collectors editions in my life, but I get a very strange urge to buy them because it's exciting to open big boxes. I realise how ridiculous that sounds and I almost never actually buy them, but the urge is always there.
@bill_mcneal: Hemp and Courage.
