Admit it, you like paying less for good games.
When it comes to low priced indie games, 2008 rocked it out. With games like Braid and World of Goo, I think a whole new level of excellence is inevitable in the area of simple, short, cheap, and most importantly, wildly entertaining games. World of Goo is really the embodiment of this, standing at 1500 points on the Wii, and being basically a physics/building simulator that can last a few hours. It's real achievement is that for that price the 2 dudes from 2D Boy are giving you an incredibly fresh and enjoyable experience.
World of Goo is a very polished game, it looks great, it has good music, and they really took the concept of building things out of goo balls to its limits. When you stand this game point for point up against a blockbuster game like Gears of War 2, it may not match up. But if you look at what you are getting for the money you spend, and the fact that it was done by an extremely small group of people, you start to realize that its hard to distinguish which is the greater achievement. World of Goo proves that you don't need huge development teams or budgets to put out a quality product, and I think that is something that is important to not forget.
So what makes this game so enjoyable? Maybe its the art, or the music. Maybe its the way the goo balls squeal in excitement while you use and abuse them for your own purposes. Maybe its the satisfaction you get when you beat a level where 10 minutes before you could not imagine how it was even possible. Or, most likely, it's just all of those things working together. Sure, the game can be frustrating at times, but it's all worth it for those moments of triumph; so if you have a Wii, I seriously suggest you put down the small amount of money this game costs and have yourself some goo-filled fun.
