    So I have a ten day free trial card and was wondering if I like the game what happens if I decide to upgrade would I need to pay for original WoW first?

    From memory, yes, you'd need to buy an actual WoW game. Unless they changed it of course.

    Yes.  I did something similar with my daughter about a year ago.  I did the recruit-a-friend, where she got 10 days free, but she still ended up having to pay for original WoW (which includes a free month), and I had gotten her a game card.  I think when I did this, original WoW was like $20, though I know that recently they were doing some wicked sales where it was only $5.
