Why on Earth would they want to launch a system in 2012 with sales like that? I'm starting to be a believer in 2014 being the arrival of Sony and Microsoft's next gen system at the earliest.

How many of those were purchased by people intending to resell them at a profit on ebay?

Wow, that's a lot of Kinects. The actual console number is less impressive because we can assume a decent fraction of them are probably re-purchases. I seriously doubt there are many people who have bought more than one Kinect.

But yeah, there's no fucking way in hell that the next Xbox is coming out in 2012, and there never was.

Wow, that seems so crazy to me given that it came out 6 years ago! Surely everyone who was gonna get one has one by now!? I wonder how many of those sales are people buying replacement units.

@stinky: Some of the best deals were on the Kinect/ Console bundles.

There was no way the next Xbox was going to be announced before 2013, ever.

Yep. Microsoft was able to show with the 360 that there is a huge first mover advantage in the console market. Microsoft went from after thought to parity in the world wide market and to dominate the US market by releasing before Sony did. However, lots of the profits in consoles are in the back end years. Hardware is selling at a profit per unit instead of a loss per unit like a new console would. You make money with every game sold and if your competition is int eh same generation as you you aren't losing sales. Now Nintendo had a chance to vault ahead because of the drying up Wii sales but it looks like the Wii U won't have the power to capture a huge market share from Sony and Microsoft. So at this point Sony and Microsoft are playing a big game of chicken. If you move first you can get a huge advantage but if you end up moving at the same time you don't get the advantage and lose out on all end of cycle profits. So yes it is basically a prisoner's dilemma type of game going on.

I too am wondering about Sony's and Nintendo's numbers. I don't want any predictions I want solid numbers. Some people pegged 360 sales at 600,000 but obviously they were wrong. I bet the 3DS sold amazingly, up here in Canada the system was $139 and during my trips to stores mom's were going crazy buying them. Literally every other person at the Toysrus I went to had a 3DS and some games.

to be expected wii sold 700k plus units ,

3ds sold near 1 million as well as ds which sold 500k ,,

    ps3 only sold 500 k and psp 200 k ,

so ya average black friday week numbers, nuff said ,

wii still holds lead overall so dont be excited!

and with 3ds and ds put together nintendo put up a emergency room this month, !

That 2012 launch is only a rumor...one that will not be true. No way in hell.
