Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

Game » consists of 19 releases. Released Jan 14, 1987

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link is the second entry in the ground-breaking Zelda franchise. This controversial follow-up ditches the original's top-down perspective for 2D side-scrolling exploration and combat. The 2D towns, dungeons and combat arenas are tied together by a top-down overworld.

One thing I always thought was neat about Zelda II was some of the cryptic messages you got for people, empty rooms, or just searching around.  Most riddles in modern Zelda games are pretty much spelled out for you, but I would like to see some messages like in Zelda II where after you read it, you raised an eyebrow and said "huh?"

    Quotes like:

    • I am Error.
    • No one is here but a churchbell will ring
    • The door will not open.  Its(sic) very quiet.
    • East of Triple Eye Rock at seashore
    • It is said the east of Nabooru has...

I feel like it might have a little more to do with space restraints inside the caption bubbles than with clever wording, but they certainly were cryptic.

I also agree with you Megalon.......just getting to the last dungeon every time is damn hard.  I remember having to use all your magic to turn into a fairy to go through that one section of the cave and all the other obstacles.  By the time you finally got to "the spirit of Ganon", I was totally wiped (not even to mention Link's shadow......which I only saw my father beat when I was young).

    Error indeed.
