Alone in the dark is a very unique, yet flawed game.
Now everyone likes to talk smack about this game for one reason, it has a ton of flaws. However I'm here to tell you that Alone in the dark: Inferno is a truly unique game with a lot of really cool mechanics. But, I'm also here to tell you that if you aren't willing to get past its control/ technical problems then you might just end up hating it.
The story in the AitD is a pretty basic horror game plot, you wake up from some deep sleep and have no idea who you are all while crazy monsters are killing everyone in sight. However, it's not the story itself thats great, it's the big, explosive action sequence's. From climbing up huge buildings with chunks of flaming stone falling right past you, to the fully realised intense boss fights.
The gameplay is the one thing that makes AitD a hit or miss game. On one hand you have a really cool inventory system, physics based puzzles and a fight night style analog stick-based melee system. The problem is not that the game is lacking in creative gameplay, it's the controls that are the real problem, since they alone make these great ideas fall flat. My overall experience with the gameplay was good, I enjoyed myself, but I did see a number of problems that semm like they could have been adressed.
Overall: I really liked this game for it's unique gameplay and overall creepy atmosphere, but their are a number of glaring problems that hold it back from being truly memorable.
