Overview
9 Clues: The Secret of Serpent Creek is a hidden objects game developed by Tap it Games and published by Artifex Mundi (G5 Entertainment for iOS releases) for PC, Mac, iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and Blackberry platforms.
Story
A reporter named Helen Hunter contacts her paranormal investigator friend to come to Serpent Creek. She sounds terrified in the voice mail she leaves and says she needs help. Players are put in the role of this paranormal investigator as she arrives in Serpent Creek only to find out Helen has gone missing.
Once she gets there she discovers that the inhabitants of Serpent Creek seem to be in an almost sleep like state. There are snakes all over and there are frequent tremors.
Gameplay
9 Clues: The Secret of Serpent Creek uses a point and click adventure style of gameplay which has players clicking on objects and characters on static background scenes. Players get an inventory in which important items are kept. These items can be used together or with items in the games scenes to solve puzzles.
Hidden Object Scenes
The game contains various hidden object scenes which are a single screen full of various items. There is a list at the bottom of the screen which contains certain items. This list of items are the specific items the player needs to find and click on. Some items must be found by using or combining other items in the scene in order to obtain them.
Detective Scenes
9 Clues: The Secret of Serpent Creek also contains scenes that put the player into detective mode. In detective mode there is a single screen scene which contains multiple clues. Players need to try and find all the clues in the scene and click on them. As the player moves the cursor closer to a clue, it will start to glow brighter. Once all of the clues have been found a cutscene will play out with the protagonist piecing the clues together.
Puzzles
There are many puzzle screens in 9 Clues: The Secret of Serpent Creek. Puzzles are mostly logic based puzzles, and are often a conclusion to obtaining an item or items from other sections of the game.
Collectibles
Throughout the game there are nine hidden question marks that can be found. These are hidden in the normal scenes while not in a puzzle or hidden object scene. An achievement is tied to collecting all of these.
