999 Delivers on ALL Fronts! 37

I completed the game with all the endings during a weekend marathon and it was a AMAZING experience. This is one of the most well-written, well planned and most thought-provoking games I've played this year. In fact, it's probably one of my all time fave games in the patheon of awesome story-focused games. Why? Let me explain. The game is filled with a cast of amazing characters and concepts that will make your head spin. Not only are the characters all distinctive and interesting, but they're al...

Yet another gem that's destined to be overlooked. 1

Adventure games for the DS have really come into their own. Game developers have shown repeatedly that the genre feels right at home on Nintendo's popular handheld. The nature of the genre allows designers to present their games in a way only the DS can permit, resulting in unique and memorable experiences. It's too bad, then, that the games that are most deserving of attention get lost in the shuffle, leaving things up to word-of-mouth or Internet forums to get unaware gamers to take notice. Su...

    Seek a way out 0

I generally have a love/hate relationship with pure adventure games. My enjoyment of them is highly dependent on how well their narrative is able to carry limited gameplay mechanics, which is a hard row for video games to hoe. 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors answers the call marvelously, however, proving to be a mature, well thought out adventure game that will occupy your thoughts for days after completion, and is a must play for any fan of the genre. Being a story driven adv...

I Want to Play a Game: A Bad Game 1

If you've seen the movie Saw 2, you have all the information needed to evaluate this game. It starts off with an interesting premise of being trapped on a Saw-esque cruise ship worth of trap rooms and puzzles where success is the difference between life and death and then flushes all interest down the toilet in spectacular fashion. What are 999's chosen tools of enjoyment destruction? Awkward dialogue by a variety of bad anime trope characters (actually much like Saw 2), horribly boring and ...

Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors Review 0

In this game for the DS you're going to play the part of Junpei a youngster who gets attacked and finds himself trapped on a boat along with eight other people. Each of these people have a story to tell, and you'll get to hear all about it through the game. Each character will have a bracelet attached to them with a corresponding number. You're going to need to use the numbers in combinations of 3 or 5 to unlock doors within the game. You'll also only have nine game hours (not actual playing tim...

what did I just play?! 0

What it is: A visual novel that has a little gameplay. There is A LOT of reading in this i would say 90% of this game is reading. With the other 10% as a puzzler/room escape, in each room you must find clues to unlock things (ie drawers, lockers etc) to find pieces to the puzzle, often more than one. Its short, but has multiple play throughs, but every time you play through it, the puzzles are the same, but you get choices on dialogue sometimes and the path you choose will lead to differ...

Great Game, but an even Greater Story 0

SPOILER-FREE REVIEW This is a text-based adventure game, similar to games like Phoenix Wright or Hotel Dusk. So you will be reading 75% of the time. A game like this would not work if the story and the writing weren't excellent. Thankfully, 999 has some of the best writing and the most mind-blowing story in any video game you will ever play. It seamlessly combines elements mystery, thriller, and science-fiction into one truly compelling experience from start to finish to start to finish to star...

Stellar Story From Beginning to End 0

Deep and enthralling stories are something I never normally look for in a video game. But Nine Hours delivers the best one I've experienced to date. It's expected from a visual novel, however, it felt just as entertaining as reading a regular book. The story goes as Junpei and eight others are abducted from their homes in order to play what's called the "Nonary game". The core mechanic of the story involves what's known as digital roots. Each character is encoded with a bracelet that ...

Visual Novel + Room Escape + inventive story = instant classic 0

The first thing you have to know about 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors, is that this is not a game for the impatient. It's a visual novel, and if you want your plot, you will need to READ.  A lot.  The game deliberately takes a leisurely scroll through the text on your first playthrough so you don't button-mash your way through the dialogue.  If you don't like reading, you will suffer a slow, slow death while waiting for your next set of puzzles.  Your first taste of this occurs after ...

    A tense, fascinating adventure 0

I have long been a fan of visual novel-style adventure games for the DS and 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors (999 for short) definitely stands up well among its genre-mates. 999 is about a group of 9 strangers who have been abducted and taken to a ship where they must complete a life-or-death puzzle game within 9 hours in order to escape. The puzzles in 999 all involve escaping rooms. You will enter a room with a number of companions and together you will need to figure out how to unlock the exit door...

999 Burries a compelling story behind frustrating puzzle solving 0

999 is a game broken up into two parts. There is the story parts that make up the majority of the game time, especially at the begining and end. There is also the escape room type puzzles that you have to figure out to solve. The game splits its self into these two sections and I am going to therefore give my opinion of the game as in these two part with writing much about how they interact. Because they don't really interact. You see some story then solve a puzzle where there is a story from on...
