The ability to fling oneself around an environment gracefully. Wall-running, jumping, massive drops, climbing, and other physical activities are what acrobatics is all about.
Present in most action games, where people can say cheesy stuff and get away with it. Usually spoken by the hero, before or after wasting a dude.
An albino is an animal that was born with a random genetic disorder which causes them to have no pigment in their skin, hair or eyes. Human albinos typically have pale blue eyes, pale white skin and white/light blond hair (due to a lack of melanin).
The form a character takes when they have undergone a fundamental physical or psychological change. This is usually the result of training, magic, or a specific event.
Using any form of input or interruption to cause a character's sprite or 3D animation for landing/attacking/etc to drop frames and stop early. This allows you to instantly keep moving or attacking rather than waiting for said animation to finish going through all its frames.
A protagonist who lacks some or all of the qualities traditionally seen as heroic.
Necessary to sustain life in organic creatures, the crimson fluid known as blood tends to make appearances when the body's structure is compromised in some way, a very, very common occurrence in videogames.
Your body is torn apart and your organs are falling out. But don't worry, you have the ability to pull yourself back together.
Bosses are enemies that fight you at the end of a level or at a significant point in the story.
Whether jumping, crashing, or being thrown, objects & characters traveling loudly through windows never ceases to be entertaining.
A protagonist who is arrogant, cynical, and aggressive, but also intelligent and introspective. Named after the English Romanticist writer Lord Byron, who popularized such characters and was said to have fit this description himself.
When a character introduced in a previous game reappears with the same name, but a significantly different appearance. This is usually not mentioned or explained within the game, often because the storyline has been reset as well.
The new badass way to look, as seen on 90% of hit video game covers.
Due to crafty camera angles and conveniently placed objects in the environment, the nudity in the scene is obscured from view.
The ability to counter a move.
A crossover occurs when a character from one franchise makes a special appearance in a game from an unrelated franchise. Some games are specifically designed to be crossovers that bring together characters from two or more franchises.
One or more events from someone's past that negatively affected them. Plenty of video game characters have such pasts.
Demons are generally creatures of evil, usually from Hell, who are often totally untrustworthy even when they're not murdering everyone and destroying everything in their path.
A Demon hunter is a type of bounty hunter that eliminates demonic threats for their clients.
Given that Hell totally sucks, it's not surprising that Demons are semi-constantly trying to get from there to Earth.
It's all in the family.
A gene inherited from the devil himself, if you somehow have some devil gene in you, you may find yourself transforming into a devil version of yourself sometime soon. Prominent in Capcom and Namco franchises Tekken and Devil May Cry.
A divekick is a gravity-defying move found in many fighting games that allows an airborne fighter to propel themselves downward at their opponent at a high rate of speed.
A double jump is the ability to jump while already in mid-air to get some extra lift. In reality, double jumps are not possible and violate fundamental laws of physics.
The concept of using two weapons at once, often for more damage at the cost of accuracy, the use of a shield, grenades, or other similar accessories.
A phenomenon by which one or more aspects of a character are exaggerated to the point of becoming a much bigger and more pronounced part of their identity than they previously were, even to the point of becoming the character's defining characteristic. Named after The Simpsons character Ned Flanders, who in-between the show's earliest and latest seasons had his religious background exaggerated to the point of becoming an intolerant Fundamentalist.
It's not just for airplanes anymore: Game mascots and MMO players alike have taken to the skies. Players can use flight to quickly navigate large levels, find hidden items, or take opponents down.
The idea of taking an existing franchise and starting over from scratch, overhauling the gameplay and sometimes going so far as to remove it from any connection to previous games in a series. Such is sometimes done when attempting to revitalize a franchise that is showing its age and has fallen into disfavor.
A status effect that may increase strength and vitality at the expense of drawbacks such as poorer dexterity and reduced stamina.
Whether it be Mario vs. Bowser, Jedi vs. Sith, Link vs. Ganon, or Elves vs. Orcs, the forces of good are in an eternal battle with the hordes of evil.
