The Reason Why I Broke Down and Bought a PS2

I'll be honest, I wasn't a very big console gamer for a large part of my life.  I used to live and breath PC games.  I had a Nintendo and a Dreamcast, both of which I got for free.  I have a ton of friends that had the PS2 and the bajillion games that the system had.  They were all just "meh" to me.  Some neat stuff here and there, GT3, GT4, Sly Cooper...  Stuff that I would've played had I borrowed someone's PS2, but I was still hesitant to buy one.  Then this game came along and stole 3 weeks worth of my lunch money.

    WHAT DREW ME IN?
Being able to swing some mean looking blades on chains seared into the arms of a testosterone junkie named Kratos at Greek mythological creatures?  Yeah, that's fan-friggin-tastic.  The ancient Greek setting was a refreshing change of pace for me at the time.  Seeing noteable Greek gods and creatures like Zeus, Aries, Medusa, and minotaurs was  quite a treat.  Being able to rip them apart was just icing on the cake.

    WHAT KEPT ME GOING?
The art style in the game was incredible.  So much was going on but at the same time made sure you were focused on the task at hand, namely kicking the crap out of everyone.  The levels brought you to different areas in the ancient world all with great looking set pieces.  The soundtrack was big and bold like our favorite chrome-dome.  The orchestral chorus bellowing on point when something was about to go down.  The boss fights were fantastic.   Though there weren't that many, the ones the designers threw in were definitely memorable.  The story was neat, with a little twist here and there.  You can sort of sympathize for Kratos and his journey to free himself of his nightmares while going about doing the gods bidding.

All in all, a great game with amazing gameplay, visuals, sounds, and a neat story to boot.  Yeah I know this review is short and may not have much in it, oh well there's always the next one.  :-)

Violence and the 2010 Olympics 0

The 2010 Winter Olympics are underway, and citizens of the world are indulged in the spirit of patriotism and hope for their nation’s athletes. Canadians from far and wide have been purchasing those snuggly red Olympic mittens to warm their hands and hearts with the excitement of hosting an event as prestigious as the games. But underneath the tradition and energy of the Olympic events lies a path of destruction. The IOC has developed a reputation for plundering every city they enter, generat...

      Simply Incredible 0

Action adventure games; they're a dime a dozen.  They've been a staple since the dawn of videogames.  God of War takes all the lessons learned from the great action adventure games and combines them to create one of the best games ever to grace a console.  The game does not offer much in terms of innovation, but it simply does everything to perfection.  As the title would lead you to believe, this game is based in Greek mythology.  Surprisingly few games have taken advantage of the depth of...
