Take on the role of Niko Bellic, a Serbian immigrant who comes to the US at his cousin Roman's request, to find a better life, search for "that special someone" and participate in lawless activities in an upgraded generation of Liberty City.
I preferred the Lost and Damned. Better protagonist, and it much more successfully pulled off its tone than TBoGT did. Plus, I've always been intrigued by the biker culture of the GTA series, and would love for Rockstar to revisit this sort world again someday.
I preferred gay tony. It's very fun and has a lot of the over the top stuff from the older games. Lost and Damned is great as well though its very different in tone.
It took a look at GTA IV and realised it wasn't nearly fun enough, looked at Lost & Damned and decided it was still too angsty and went FUCK IT... Gay club owner with a coke problem... and the game was much better for it.
I thought the Lost and the Damned was alot better. It felt natural and was pretty damn cool. I didn't really like the Ballad of Gay Tony much at all. It felt like it was trying way too hard the entire time.
First time playing through them I enjoyed Gay Tony more for adding a club atmosphere to Liberty City's nightlife. But playing them both again recently, I think Lost and Damned is better. I loved the whole dying breed of bikers storyline contrasted with reality TV, cell phone-obsessed America.
I liked Lost and The Damned better. I think part of the reason is because I'm a big Sons of Anarchy fan and playing Lost and The Damned made me feel like I was part of an MC. I thought The Ballad of Gay Tony was good too I just didn't enjoy it as much.
Gay Tony was fantastic, but Lost & Damned got unfairly overshadowed by it. As a guy who HATES the motorcycle missions in GTA games, they did a great job of not making L&D into a big ball of frustration.
I really like them both but I have a pretty big problem with Lost & Damned. In the end you gain the favour of a high ranking politician and you need to kill a guy who is in jail. You would think that the politician could get you alone with your target. Instead, he just tells you to blow the fuck out of the main gates at the prison and gun down dozens of guards and fight your way to the target. Thanks for the help asshole.
Lost and Damned, I found I really liked the story and characters way more than the Ballad of Gay Tony. Plus I love the idea of biker gangs so theres that too.
Lost & Damned. Both are great but I loved the first pack since I was enjoying more of the dialogue between characters. I enjoyed a majority of the missions in that pack. Also it has Entombed in LCHC.
Lost and Damned has a better story, but Ballad of Gay Tony is way more fun to play, It has crazy guns, really ridiculous missions and most importantly, it has checkpoints in the missions.
I guess I'm in the minority here but I prefered The Lost and Damned. I prefered the story, gameplay, tone and actually also the gameplay in TLAD. The grenade launcher was super fun to use and they made riding bikes really enjoyable for once. Plus it was cool to ride as a gang through the city. They captured the tone of the biker gang culture really well, I say without any knowledge of being in a biker gang, and that really set it apart from anything else GTA IV releated. Plus it's basically Sons of Anarchy the videogame.

The Lost and Damned had checkpoints as well, y'know.
