Video Review - Halo Wars 2 [PC]
Halo Wars 2 is the latest in the shooter-turned-strategy game franchise and developer Creative Assembly's second attempt at making a controller-based RTS. Luckily, they've done a much better job this time around, keeping the depth and complexity the genre is known for while also streamlining a lot of the controls and interfacing. PC players concerned that this would be a watered-down experience need not worry, as the work done to accommodate controllers actually translates into a lot of quality of life improvements such as easily cycling through units in the field, different bases across the map, and even individual units within a larger selection. The campaign, while fairly average, does a good job of introducing the different units and mechanics in preparation for the real meat of the game: the multiplayer. The standard modes are here, with annihilation, control points, and team or solo options but the real stand-out is the new Blitz Mode. This is a combination of a control-point mode and a collectible card game. Matches are fast and hectic and the card drops add a nice carrot on a stick.
