A list of most of my favorite games this year, as a top 10.

List items

  • Loved this and was the first Tales game I really got into. Combat especially felt great and pushed me to get all achievements when the story eventually fell into anime tropes but I had a lot of fun with this.

  • Came out late in the year, but definitely memorable and I'm enjoying the time I've put into it already. The grapple hook makes traversing the landscape in the campaign a lot of fun. I'm not big into multiplayer games these days, but I've liked what I've played of the MP so far and will put some more time in.

  • I love most Resident Evil games, often in spite of themselves. Yes, even 6 I came to appreciate. This one is fun, and though it feels segmented in some ways, as you get into different segments of the game, it felt like a step up from VII with the faster paced and more varied enemies.

  • Metroid style games are some of my favorites when they're done well and this is a really good one that I blazed through pretty quickly. It was challenging as a lot of enemies and bosses hit hard, but it was always a fun progression to go from getting killed quick to hanging in there and eventually overcoming the challenge.

  • I was hesitant on this one after coming out of Avengers with a sour after taste, but this game went for a story with gravitas, fun and adventure that was fitting for the Guardians of the Galaxy. A lot of personality both in the game and its characters went a long way, and even got me to finish things up despite a lot of technical issues and crashes when the game first launched on PC.

  • While World and Iceborne are the prettier Monster Hunters, I love the mobility that this game introduced. And as always since I got into the series with Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, the monsters are a lot of fun to take out.

More mobility options in all games please!

  • I don't play a lot of platformers these days as I get tired of them, but the creative levels and crisp platforming were enough to get me to finish this one...well and it being on Game Pass from the get go.

  • While this kind of felt incremental at the time of release, I still had fun with the additional levels and being able to import the previous two games within this one. Loved the murder mystery at the house as it gave me some Knives Out vibes.

  • I haven't completed this, but wanted to give it recognition as it cleans up a lot of the clunkier aspects of the original game, still has a great story, amazing music and an interesting world to explore, get lost in and become depressed as it progresses, haha.

  • This spot previously had Shin Megami Tensei V. That was before I fell deep into Fights in Tight Spaces. It's scratching the tactics itch similar to an XCOM or Final Fantasy Tactics but much more focused. While it is card based, this is much closer to what I was hoping John Wick Hex would be, as a good round of cards can be very satisfying and cool to watch the replay. There's a good variety of enemy types that will have you adjusting your tactics. Highly recommended if this sounds interesting to you.
