Fallout 3 DLC Announced

One pack a month for the first three months of 2009. Also, mod tools!

This guy's excited about it.
This guy's excited about it.
Bethesda has laid down some new information on upcoming downloadable content packs for its recently released action-adventure, Fallout 3. The content will be exclusive to the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game, which sounds like a fancy way of saying "we would like to thank Microsoft for the fat check they gave us to keep this off the PS3."

The first pack will hit in January, and will be called Operation: Anchorage. It'll let you enter a military simulation and re-enact the battle between the US and the Chinese--this is one of the key pre-vault struggles in the Fallout universe, which is kind of cool.

The Pitt will be released in February and will have players travel to Pittsburgh, which is now a town full of raiders.

March will bring the Broken Steel pack, which picks up after the completion of the game's main quest and has you join up with the Brotherhood of Steel to eradicate the Enclave forces from the Capital Wasteland.

Continuing the story seems interesting. But if you want to continue the story yourself, you'll also be able to build your own content in the PC version via mod tools to be released in December. That should really jump start the Fallout 3 mod scene, which has been limited to pretty basic changes so far.

The Operation:Anchorage sounds interesting. Glad to see the Bethesda team having DLC so early.

I'm totally uninterested in the first DLC coming out. I don't want to play a military sim in my Fallout. I want more of the amazing environment of a post nuclear USA featured in Fallout 3!

I will be buying all of these. The content seems lined up to perfectly compliment my expected journey through Fallout, and should I be done with it early, I can always load one of my 250+ saves. I've been meandering through it though. I wonder how I'll be able to give time to GTA4 and this in February?

With the Mod Kit being released the NMA community can really give the game redemption.

@Serker - You could already cheat your way for all the Live achievements through the in-game dev console. But I didn't even install GFWL, so.. meh.

Though I am thankful they're not taking such a lock-down approach.

Christ.  This is sort of unbelievable.

I'll be really impressed if Bethesda matches the scale I imagined when I read those three scenarios.

The first pack dosent interest me too much since I dont find the combat all that interesting (same with Oblivion and all Elder Scrolls tbh and other Fallout's). If its cheap ill probably get it.

The other two are more my style. A whole new area with, hopefully, new stories to play through. Hopefully the brotherhood of steel content also has a worthwhile story to play through. If its just "Your a brotherhood dude and we want you to kill those dudes" and then a new ending movie then I dont care tbh

I like all of this, except I would much rather see this all included in a true sequel to Fallout 3, and not as download content which will have little impact on the game's story. And yes, I did see that the third pack will be a direct extension of the game's main story. It just seems to me that eradicating the enclave in DC is something I accomplished to some degree in the main story, and it's something I've been doing every time I see one of their whirly-birds and promptly shoot it out of the sky. I just fear that what they'll be adding will be like most download content, which might extend the life of the gameplay very slightly, but never offers anything significantly changing to the game as a whole.

Wow, this actually sounds like really solid DLC. So no armor for your pooch? Bummer.. Now I just have to get this game.. When I get my new 360, I have to pick between this, Gears 2, Mirror's Edge, Dead Space, and FarCry 2, and probably another 50 games I've forgotten v.v This one seems to be the most likely one considering the amount of time I'll get out of it and the rather tough times I expect to be hitting my wallet v.v

Hmm, will this be anything like the Mass Effect content where you're screwed without an earlier save game?

It seems to be a quandary.  Finish the game and keep playing in the sandbox, ala GTA, and the DLC branches off to an entirely different character.
Finish the game and save the world, and the DLC needs you to not be so damn efficient...  game over, man.

Because Microsoft delivered a dump truck full of money to Bethesda to ensure it wouldn't be on PS3.

They have just admitted to releasing a mod kit as well !!!
I read it on this site :
Fallout 3 mods kit release coming soon
they also have some mods on there already, but only minor stuff .. I can't wait for the good stuff like Total Conversions to be released hehehe .. we saw some great stuff for Oblivion, I'm hoping Fallout will get the same attention when this G.E.C.K. is released !

Hm..I have the PS3 version, too. Gotta say, I won't be buying any more of Bethesda's products after this.  Oblivion's [and Fallout 3's] technical glitches are one thing, but this is just being inconsiderate to the gamers who own the PS3 version.
