PlayStation Store Coming Back By Week's End--Unless You're in Japan, Anyway

I'd previously reported the PlayStation Store was coming back last week because that's what developers had been told by Sony themselves, but that timetable changed. It's been unclear when Sony would have the PlayStation Store ready to go. The answer came this morning: end of the week.

In addition to the ability to simply browse a virtual store and buy stuff, the next phase of PlayStation Network's restoration also includes voucher redemption, complete functionality of "music unlimited" for Qriocity on PS3, PSP, VAIO and complete access to Media Go.

“We appreciate the patience and support shown during this time," said PlayStation executive Kaz Hirai in the press release.

It's still unclear when some regions of Asia--Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea--will regain full functionality. The Japanese government has been demanding more specifics from Sony about its responsibility to hacked consumers, slowing down the process. All Sony's saying right now is details about the return of services in those regions will be released "as they become available."

My PS3 YLOD on me a few days ago, so I guess I'm going to miss out on the free games...

They practically swore it would be up by May 31st, and it's still not up. I am severely disappointed with them.

They've been saying it's coming up "next week, tomorrow, end of the month" for well over a month now.

I'm probably going to spend $50 bucks worth of stuff depending on how they launch it.

I just want to be able to redeem codes again.

It sure would be cool if the downloadable L.A. Noire content wasn't trying to kill my PS3 or is it truly the whole PSN fault of which I'm highly doubtful...

Don't worry guys, it'll be back up by the end of June...  Ok, August.  OK!  It'll definitely be up by the of end of 2011.
 
I wonder if it WILL actually come up at the end of the week.  I want to use my SOCOM code and Resistance 3 multiplayer beta code.

Question:  Anyone happen to know if the games they offer for free will be on a per-account or per console basis?  I let my brother use my PS3 since he's 13 and can't afford his own... so we will both get to pick up 2 games?  I also have a euro account I used to get demos that came out there first, so will I have access to the euro selection with that account?

I havn't missed the store that much. Dropping the kombat pass was a brilliant move that nearly gurantees me buying all the DLC for MK9 out of thanks. Steam did a sufficient job of satisfying my need to buy little games with their crazy sales recently.... Hellloooo Tropicooo!!

Sweet, I can finally get Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes. Been waiting for quite some time, didn't really want it on 360 but I came close to buying that version a couple of times.

This whole debacle was the started by  Sony with going after a small minority of intelligent, resourceful group of people (tech enthusiast, hack hobbiests) who were looking to just get the most of their major purchase.    

 Sony put most of its resources and efforts into going after those who were doing nothing illegal as defined by current laws with jail breaking or softmoding a personal electronic device. Painting a big target on not only the company, but the customers (data and personal information) of the company , the carelessness shown over the past couple months by Sony has revealed the greed and carelessness of corporate responsibility to its users of the once respectable electronics giant.

I guess I'm an idiot because I tried to log into my PSN account yesterday and my password was of course invalid - then the service to change your password was unavailable with a super vague message saying to come back later. I have not been consuming PSN news for the most part so I really thought the store was up. Acting as a regular consumer here - it was not obvious that I wasn't able to shop for things because the entire thing was offline.

I know they want to sate the consumers, but... Somehow I think it'd be better to hold off, as the Japanese government said for their country, upping PSN until they know for sure they've got everything worked out.
I mean... After what happened the first time they said it would be going back up, I don't know if a "guys, we TOTALLY fixed it this time, we promise," is going to be very effective in convincing people. Not while Japan is still demanding specifics from Sony.
