Eurogamer has recently received information that Activision is doing something with the GoldenEye 007 property. What that something is remains uncertain, but the publication's report alleges that a GoldenEye game--not necessarily a remake or a re-release--is coming and is slated for a November 2010 release on the Wii and Nintendo DS. Supposedly, it's being developed by James Bond vets Eurocom and Bond-virgins n-Space.
Activision didn't respond to a request for comment, and they never have before with the evidence pointing towards a new generation GoldenEye 007, either. Most recently, a survey (and pictures) indicated the publisher had something up its sleeves. Activision has also, as pointed out by Eurogamer, registered some domain names that teased its efforts as well.
You know what? Sure. I'd use this. At one point, rumors swirled around a Rare-developed Xbox Live Arcade re-release of the title. Talks between Microsoft and Nintendo around money purportedly broke down, causing the game's cancellation in 2008. Activision is now the owner of the James Bond license. Its latest Bond game was Treyarch'sQuantum of Solace.
If Eurogamer's report proves true, we're looking at a GoldenEye title that will probably have us taping cardboard to our much-more expensive, high-tech TVs to prevent screen peeking. Will it be worth the trouble? I'm thinking it is if that gun is a part of the package, for sure.

From what I was reading on gaf they seemed to think it was a remake. Interested to see how it turns out, though after Rogue Agent it's hard not to be sceptical.

There was something about this a year ago when an Artist left the project and listed it on his Resume. I've always been kind of bummed about it since XBLA makes the most sense. It needs good online multiplayer and a high-def finish.
How can it be a remake... The game is Rare's, isn't it? The name and license are only in the hands of Activision. Unless the big N own the rights to the level design and stuff and are letting Activision in on them. I'm sceptical.
Just adding that word to the title doesn't make an FPS game automatically good. Rogue Agent proved this. Just concentrate on making a good James Bond game. Or a good game, period.
A port with Wii controls would actually fit better than todays modern shooters. Back then the auto aim was such a big part of the game. So you move with the nunchuk thumb stick and enter the aim mode by holding z or something and aim with the wii mote, instead of the thumbstick like back in the day. It makes sense. But if this game were on the DS, watch out, I would take it everywhere with me. Oh god, I want that shit now.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Out of all the guns they could have selected from Goldeneye - they chose the Klobb which was one of my least favorite and worst guns in the game.
As other people said they should just leave Goldeneye alone - it was a game of its time and nothing else. It can't just come back and be the best again... especially just a re-release.
@Rinkalicous: Me and my brother used to actually. We took it a step further tho and split the video to 2 TVs in different rooms so we couldn't hear each other as well.
Had to modify the length of the controller cord but we even put the cords under the carpet as to not piss our mom off as much ("to not piss our mom off"...wow this was a long time ago hehe).

Oh, then a simple port will do fine. But a new game won't hurt either. Maybe get the Indiana Jones and Staff of Kings route, and get a new game and an old game bundled together.
Part of me would be disappointed if it was a port of the classic to the Wii and DS as I'd much rather have a HD remake. Still, could be worse. We could be looking at another Goldeneye: Rogue Agent.
@LtColJaxson: I think the Klobb was selected because out of all the weapons it was the worst, so you remember picking it up and thinking "oh fuck not this piece of shit again, looks like ill stick to my pp7."
