The Wheel of FUN is turning
Blazblue is awesome. Let's get that out of the way. However, if you are reading this you probably already know how you feel about blazblue just by the way it looks. If stylized, handdrawn 2d characters that look like they were picked straight from an anime bother you, than I can say this game is not for you. The game has 12 characters, all who are very interesting and fun to play as in their own right. There is an arcade mode, which is a straight up fight the roster of the game one by one and then have a little dialog at the end. This is the quickest way to into blazblue in my opinion, and the best way to try all the characters. Then there is a story mode, which is like arcade mode, except with heavier empathis on exposition and an occasional choice which may affect who you fight in the next round. It all seems a bit random, but it is still interesting to see that all of the characters here are interstingly fleshed out by Arc System Works. This mode has alot more length to it than arcade, as you are required to play through all characters stories to unlock more content for each character. Aside from that theres also a training mode which is good for testing out moves. It has an interesting feature where you can "record" moves as the training dummy, and then when using your own character have the dummy play out the moves whenever.
And then there's mutliplayer. There is an offline, local unit 1 on 1 match thats pretty standard, but anyone with an internet connection and a gold account should be more concerned with ONLINE play. It comes with standard player and ranked matches, with a progression system built in where the better you do, the higher level you are, and then are matched with players similar to your level when you hit quick match. In player matches there is a lobby built for up to 6 people. Who would have thought a FIGHTING game would have a lobby system, HUH CAPCOM? In the end, I can recommend a few things to you. If you REALLY like fighting games, then no matter what you want to get this game. If you enjoy fighting games, but some of the more complex games like mvc2, or the more technical ones like virtual fighter scare you, than I would still really check this game out. If you are cautiously worried about the way the game looks, then go ahead and at least rent it, I guarantee you will find it easy to pick up, and not very frustating unless either you crank the difficulty up, or you go diving headfirst into ranked matches without really getting used to the game. Lastly, if you are wondering which game to get, this or king of fighters XII, theres no argument, this is hands down MUCH better, and will rock your ass off. REBEL ONE, GO BUY THIS GAME!
