Worth a rent, wouldn't recommend buying it.
Anything I would write here would pretty much be a copy of everything you've read about this game already. I will instead just share a few misses this game makes. The humor is great and I would say the story is amazing but at a crucial plot twist point, characters act vastly different just in order to progress to the next act. This took me out of the story a bit and soured the experience. The ending is a bit of a let down as well. Several hints of a back story for the main character are laid out but never really fleshed out. Perhaps some DLC could be made to take advantage of this?
For a game that does so well telling you tips and actions you can make, it forgets some very basic ones. (I will say, I played the game via Gamefly, so I didn't have a manual. Maybe these are written there.. but who reads manuals?)
1) To run, click the left thumb stick down. I purchased the power slide technique very early on in the game and never used it because I didn't know this basic action.
2) The bound dragons are freed via left trigger and holding the X button down for the pyro move. I assumed that the bound dragons would be freed via a solo, much like the relic raiser. I missed every single dragon in the game because of this and did not receive health bonuses as a result. Which leads me to the next point:
3) I beat the game with hardly any upgrades. It's very sad that exploration is rewarded better. The only upgrades I felt that enhanced my play-through were the lightning axe and homing rockets for the Duece. The latter made the defense secondary quests vastly easy. The lightning was nice for helping clear out masses of enemies, but one face melter solo did the job faster.
I know it sounds like I'm heaping hate on this game, but I think it's just because I'm feeling let down. I was really looking forward to this experience but are one run through the game, I don't feel there's much to come back here for.
