Mini Review: Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

Editor's Note: I wrote this review a year ago but never posted it till now.

Ah it's been a few months since I've just enjoyed a game with a interesting cast of characters and a compelling story to go along with it. What gameplay this game has is minimal with the main focus being on figuring what piece of evidence is required to prove someone is lying. This is presented a few different ways throughout the game. The main one is to use a "truth bullet" to break a highlighted statement during a nonstop debate. It won't always be a piece of evidence that proves the statement wrong either since sometimes it is vital to copy someone else's statement in order to prove something. I just wanted to note that since it shows that the game requires a bit of thought while trying to figure out whodunit during most of the class trials. A few other minigames are spread out during the game as well like a hangman game and a rhythm game when confronting someone.

The story itself is really well done with quite a few twists and turns that'll keep you wanting to see more till the very end. It takes a little while to get started but once it starts the game never stops a breakneck pace till the end. The characters themselves all may seem rather stereotypical at first but once you learn more about them they turn out to be more than meets the eye. The overall mystery is also told well since I never quite figured out what was really going on till near the end of the game. This game is worth playing if you love a good mystery or if you like a rather dark story since this game has a ton of that.

In order to properly contextualize my thoughts on that game though, I think it is best that I start with Danganronpa.By now, many of you have heard of the premise of Danganronpa. You play the role of one of a group of students who have recently arrived at the prestigious Hope’s Peak Academy. Upon arriva...

A fun, zany experience that can't help itself from tripping over it's own language and mechanics. 0

In Spike Chunsoft's visual novel-like Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, you assume the role of a new student at Hope's Peak Academy, where along with your fellow new classmates, you are forced into a game where the only way to win and leave the school that has become your prison is to kill one of your peers and get away with it. There are so many books, movies and other video games that this elevator pitch could allude to that it's not even worth it to try and write them all down, but what shoul...
