I think the rooms you can open with the little lock things respawn their stuff. I was able to get two on that first ship you go to.

Or if you're on PC and want infinite resources, don't waste time farming and simply use a memory editor. The resource values are also all neatly organized close together.

Does mem-editing a single-player game with microtransactions equate to piracy in EA's eyes, I wonder? And do you suppose that the devs purposely didn't try to obfuscate the resource values? Am I reading too far into this?

Reading too much into it imo.
It doesn't really matter what it equates to in EA's eyes. Only what it is or isn't in reality and it's not piracy in any way shape or form to cheat in a SP game you own. As far as the devs go i'm sue they simply just didn't bother doing it, either due to lack of resources, not thinking it will make a difference, or simple lack of knowledge/foresight in the are. Hell Mass Effect 3 had open and editable credit values in the multiplayer even.
If you want my opinion, they know full well, and those are acceptable losses for them, too much effort to waste on a tiny percentage that cannot be changed anyway.

Taking advantage of this glitch is not going to "send EA a message."
--- A conversation that will never happen:
"Hey, some gamers have found a way to glitch the game and get unlimited resources."
"Really? Shit, they must be really pissed that we put Microtransactions in the game."
"Yeah. We should rethink this whole business model, these gamers are too smart for us."
"Totally. Our stockholders will understand."
