Alright, pretty simple concept: Deadly Premonition is being adapted into a major motion picture, and you've been given the enviable task of having to fill out roles for the film. There are just a few rules though:
1. There is no budget restrictions. Cast as many major names as you want, even in the most minor of parts.
2. You can cast "unknowns" (IE, actors with no real previous American screen presence), but only TWICE.
3. You can resurrect a dead actor for a role, but only ONCE
4. You can drop a character from the plot for the adaptation, but only ONCE.
So I'll go first. Spam warning: this game has a pretty big cast.
Francis York Morgan: Keanu Reeves. This is actually the casting choice that got me rolling down this insane train.
George Woodman: Mickey "Hamburgers" Rourke
Emily Wyatt: Sarah Michelle Gellar
Thomas MacLaine: Edward Norton (hey, he had to show up somewhere)
Forrest Kaysen: John Goodman (maybe a bit of typecasting, but Goodman is such a great actor and can do both charming and kind suspicious really well.)
Carol MacLaine: Marisa Tomei
Anna Graham: Unknown
Diane Ames: Naomi Watts
Becky Ames: Evan Rachel Wood (can you tell I like the Wrestler?)
Isaac & Isaah: Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick (the kid from the recent shitty Omen remake)
Keith Ingram: Jason Segel, playing up absolutely for comic effect
Lilly Ingram: Anne Hathaway
Harry Stewart: ...hmmm. Probably doesn't need much of an actor, could just be done by general stunt man.
Michael Tillotson: Robert Pattinson
Jim Green: Charlton Heston
Nick Cormack: Phillip Seymour Hoffman (he doesn't look like the model, but I could see him doing the whole cook in a tense marriage with affair around art love well.)
Olivia Cormack: Sigourney Weaver
Ushah Johnson: Terrence Howard
Fiona Freckles: America Ferrera (stunt casting? Sure. But that's all this is, really)
Sallie Graham: Molly Shannon. No, seriously, I could see her doing kinda unraveled, widowed and mourning mother really well.
Richard Dunn: Ralph Fiennes
Quint Dunn: Unknown
Polly Oxford: Rosemary Harris
Sigourney the Pot Lady: Dropped
"Rosy Lips" Gina: Jenna Jameson (though really, any blonde porn star works)
Jack the Raging Bull: Jack Black
Brian the Insomniac: Jack White
"The General" Lysander: Sam Elliot
Wesley the Gunsmith: Chris "Ludacris" Bridges
Alright, that's all I got. Good luck with your own casts.
Deadly Premonition
Game » consists of 11 releases. Released Feb 23, 2010
An open-world action-adventure game following an eccentric FBI agent as he investigates a series of bizarre murders in the small rural town of Greenvale.
CAST IT: Deadly Premonition
I too immediately thought Keanu Reeves for York and a few others seem spot on too though I'd probably have someone gruffer like M.C. Gainey for George Woodman.
" @Sweep said:What? What are you talking about? They both have the same sort of odd speech patterns and socially detached demeanor." Thomas should be michael cera. "lol, nailed it. Keanu can't pull off York. "
If I have an unlimited budget, why am I unable to resurrect more than one dead actor? Is this a limitation of the technology?
" Wait someone suggested someone other than Naomi Watts for Emily? Isn't she like her inspiration? "According to where? I slotted Watts into the role of Diane because I saw that as the more Lynchian character, and I will forever associate Watts with her turn in Mulholland Drive. Emily, while a great character, is also about the most normal thing in DP. I think Watt's slightly unsettling mythic presence would be better served in one of the more mysterious roles.
Ha. This should be enjoyable.
Anna - Well, you really just need a blonde whom you could imagine dead, so Jessica Simpson.
Emily - Naomi Watts, because there've been enough comparisons to convince me that she's right for the job based solely on appearance.
George - Chuck Norris. I don't even care that he doesn't look like George. I really think that Chuck Norris would be great in this role.
Thomas - I'd hafta go with someone effeminate, so Johnny Depp.
Ushah - Usher. Why not?
York - Since I could imagine him playing a decent York as long as his hair was short enough for the task, Justin Timberlake. I just really think that he could get York's style of humor down.
I'll probably post more later.
" @XII_Sniper said:Seriously, google Naomi Watts and Deadly Premonition, it's just endless reviews, blog posts and forum threads that mention the resemblance." I'm really of the opinion that Anna specifically needs to be someone who never has been seen before. One of the things that was astonishing about Sheryl Lee as Laura Palmer was that there was a weird unremarkable-but-haunting quality to her. I think if Anna was anyone who we knew from past work, it would be simply distracting
" @Atomasist said:"My pot...is getting...cold. You better...step on it."" I want to see Christopher Walken as York. "I want to see Christopher Walken play as every character in the game.
" @kevinski: I was with you until York. Someone good should play him if an actor like Timberlake played him the movie would become a rom-comI honestly just felt that Justin Timberlake would be good with York's quirky sense of humor. I certainly wouldn't consider Justin Timberlake to be a good actor, but I also don't think that the movie would take itself very seriously.
So my suggestion James Marsters. Besides he looks like him kinda.
"
A lot actually good actors that look the characters, but seeing as how any movie based on DP is most likely going to be a Syfy original as opposed to a theatre debut, I imagine the cast being all no-name actors who all get their careers going with the help of DP.
I disagree. As much as I hated to see her die in Scream, I thought that Drew Barrymore was perfect for the role that she played. I kinda wish that they'd killed off Neve Campbell, instead, though. You know, I hated Sarah Jessica Parker until I realized that she played in Footloose (and I was baffled as to how I hadn't noticed it up until that point). I don't exactly LOVE Sarah Jessica Parker, but I've grown to tolerate her. In fact, I've learned that practically every single actor/actress whom I loathe kinda has his/her moments. I mean, Leah Thompson has Howard the Duck, Tom Hanks has Big and The Burbs, Whoopi Goldberg has Ghost...you get the idea. :P" @Atomasist said:

" DREAM BIG DAMMIT! "The studio's giving us an unlimited budget; we might as well spend it as irresponsibly as they did. If I want to bring three big-name actors back from the dead and cast a bunch of nobodies for the rest of the roles, I should be able to! The world is my oyster, dammit!
I was going to say Psycho-era Anthony Perkins for Thomas but I think Lee Pace is as good.
Also, yeah, Emily and Naomi Watts. Diane strikes me as more of a Nicole Kidman type- a little too old, probably, but...
Anna I'd just want to find a Laura Palmer lookalike Or I'm seeing Candice Accola in the space?
Man I was just thinking after watching The Day The Earth Stood Still that Keanu would be a good York. Glad someone else thinks so.
Anna I'd just want to find a Laura Palmer lookalike Or I'm seeing Candice Accola in the space? "I approve.
Now that we have revealed in the Quick Looks that Harry does in fact speak, I might be inclined to casting Hugo Weaving as Stewart...though really, that's a bit of a stretch.
